This photo that I took of a fracking rig in Broomfield, Colorado a few years ago was published on the New York Times website today (print edition tomorrow). In Jackson, Michigan last night, the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission held its first public hearing in advance of redrawing the maps for Michigan's Congressional and legislative districts. The Commission was established by the Voters Not Politicians ballot initiative, passed in 2018, which aims to end gerrymandering by taking the redistricting power away from the legislature. Laurence Kloss, former president of the Ann Arbor school board, speaks during the hearing; his shirt quotes the first line of the Michigan Constitution: "All political power is inherent in the people."
