The high school rivalry between Kyle Singler and Kevin Love, two NBA stars, remains one of my favorite documentary projects I've ever had the privilege to work on.
To tell the story, we traveled to Kyle's hometown of Medford, Oregon, where we spent time with his family, friends, coaches, and the community that helped shape him. What we discovered was an emotional and deeply personal story about a small-town kid with big dreams who outworked everyone around him and went on to achieve something extraordinary. Kyle's journey led him from an Oregon State Championship to an NCAA National Championship at Duke, and ultimately to the NBA (2012 - 2018).
Supported by the Detroit Pistons during Kyle's time with the organization, the documentary earned strong ratings on FOX Sports and went on to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding One-Time Sports Special.
As meaningful as that recognition was, the relationships forged along the way meant even more. I will always be grateful to Kyle and the entire Singler family for opening their lives to us and allowing us to tell their story. What began as a documentary project grew into lasting friendships, and for that I am truly thankful.
I am equally grateful to Stan Fracker, Charlie Metzger, and the Detroit Pistons organization for believing in the project and trusting our team with such an important story. It was an incredible journey from start to finish and one I will never forget.
Some stories stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling.
This is one of them. I definitely have nothing but love for Kyle and the Singlers.
