Tyler Perry is helping an 81 year old Illinois woman get one step closer to returning home after months of uncertainty. Brenda Daurham was forced out of her Markham home after a pipe broke beneath her kitchen sink in February. Her family said Allstate later denied the insurance claim while the company that handled the restoration placed a lien of nearly $18,000 on the property. Perry learned about Daurham's situation after FOX 32 Chicago reported on her case.

Perry paid the lien in full which removed one of the biggest financial obstacles keeping Daurham from her home. Daurham said she was grateful for his generosity while stressing that her dispute with Allstate is not over. Local groups have also stepped up to help with furniture kitchen supplies lighting and other needs. Daurham's story has now brought support from people across her community as she prepares to finally return home.

A search for 21 year old Erica Gibson has ended after authorities announced she was found safe. Gibson was reported missing after her phone was discovered at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder Georgia on Wednesday Sept. 2. Police had expressed concern for her emotional well being while searching the park and surrounding areas. Authorities said no foul play was suspected in her disappearance.

On Thursday Sept. 3 officials ended the ground and water search after learning Gibson had left the park on her own the previous evening. The Winder Police Department announced Friday Sept. 4 that Gibson had been found in the Atlanta area. She is no longer considered missing according to police. Authorities thanked everyone who helped search for Gibson or shared information about her disappearance.

Nolan Wells' family is continuing to honor his memory as another football season begins without him. On Thursday, Aug. 27, his younger brother Elmore Wonsley Jr. took the field for Ocean Springs High School's first game of the season. Elmore wore Nolan's name in eye black during the game as a tribute to his older brother. Nolan was 18 when he died after traveling to Horn Island with friends for a Fourth of July celebration.

Nolan was a college student and athlete who loved football. His mother Christine Wonsley said Aug. 27th should have been a day when the family watched Nolan play. She wrote that the family would miss watching him play "the sport he loved." His former teammates at Southwest Mississippi Community College also honored him with "NW" helmet decals and towels bearing "LLNW.

Beyoncé is helping Indiana communities recover after severe flooding left families without homes and essential resources. On Monday, Aug. 31 her BeyGOOD Foundation announced a $200,000 donation to City Life Center and Angel by Nature. The organizations are providing relief in areas hit hardest by recent flooding. The funds will help provide food, household supplies, and other necessities to families affected by the disaster.

The storm struck northern Indiana earlier in August. It caused widespread flooding, power outages, and major property damage. More than 1,000 people were left without homes according to BeyGOOD. Gary, Indiana is among the communities receiving assistance through the donation.

Gary residents who felt forgotten after a devastating storm received an unexpected show of support from food critic Keith Lee. Severe weather struck the area on Aug. 11 and left some residents without power for nearly 2 weeks. Gary was one of the hardest hit communities during the disaster. The predominantly Black city continued facing the effects of the storm when Lee arrived to help.

On Monday Aug. 24 2026 Lee held a day long giveaway that provided 1,000 meals to people affected by the flooding. He partnered with the Salvation Army and the City of Gary to organize the relief event. NBA star Tyrese Haliburton also took part in the effort to support local residents. Lee is widely known for his food reviews on social media, but he used his platform this time to provide direct help during a difficult time.
