Detroit Narrative Agency is inviting Detroiters and Michigan residents to submit 30 sec-5 min. films that answer the question, "As our communities face the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and severe anti-Black racism, what do resilience, resistance, joy, grief, and collective care look like?" Due July 8 at 11:59 p.m. Stipend ranging from $100-500. Details in their post.

As our communities face the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and severe anti-Black racism, what do resilience, resistance, joy, grief, and collective care look like? 🤔⁣

Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA) invites Detroiters and Michigan residents to creatively respond to this question through short videos 🎥 with its latest project Radical Remedies: Collective Healing and Power Through Story.⁣

Submission should be 30 seconds to five minutes long. Selected submissions will receive stipends ranging from $100-$500 and will be shared across media platforms. 📲⁣

This project will amplify community 👥 stories to build collective healing and power 💪🏾 as well as redistribute resources to storytellers and media-makers.⁣

This will honor the experiences of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people living in Detroit and Michigan weaving together our collective threads, connecting kindred communities nationally and globally.⁣

The Short Film Block Party

The Short Film Block Party is a one night affair of films that celebrate the creative voices of Detroit and Michigan. We don't want to just show films, we also want to throw a party to celebrate local filmmaking!

Our taste runs the gamut. We want to see short narratives and docs that have something to say about the here and now. We want our audience to be dazzled by the passion, creativity, and enthusiasm that comes out of this community.

We aim to select a diverse and engaging lineup of films from filmmakers from all around Michigan. We encourage people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, nationalities, creeds, orientations, and walks of life to submit!

The Short Film Block Party happens four times a year at Cinema Detroit. In addition to the films, we will have food, drinks, networking, and (weather permitting) food trucks!

I love seeing a group of film lovers in Detroit, Michigan that dedicate a celebration to local filmmakers and their creative work. I just watched this independent, sci-fi film called Empathy, Inc. and I was completely fascinated by the cinematography in the movie. First off, the movie is based on an innovative technology called Xtreme Virtual Reality, which puts you in the mind of a lower class citizen. The POV shots in the movie really made you feel engaged in the film because it put you in the mind of how the main character, Joel, felt while being in another body. Another cinematic aspect in the film that caught my attention were the dutch angles that helped to portray and alter Joel’s reality. I would highly add Empathy, Inc. to your list of movies to watch. It is also available to stream on Google Play, Amazon, and iTunes.

From mainstream flicks like ROCKETMAN to indies like MIDSOMMAR and local films in the Short Film Block Party at Cinema Detroit, we bring the best to the City of Detroit and the metro area. We’d really appreciate your vote at bit.ly/voteCD2019 ...thank you!
Hi friends! If you're looking for something to do during this rainy weekend ahead, I would definitely recommend watching a movie. I just saw a new horror film called Soul to Keep which is available on VOD! So you can watch it in the comfort of your home which is even better! The film's cinematography is impressive and really makes you feel like you're one with the characters. This film is a crazy, creepy and intense watch that truly had me at the edge of my seat!
Short Film Block Party! We're definitely getting better at this, with even better submissions, and most importantly - organizing the after party better :) Wednesday, Nov 14th @ 7pm!
