After 5 long years and many shows out of the country, IOE is finally back playing our “home base” in Phoenix, AZ! On Saturday, August 23rd, we will be bringing be a very special performance that will kick-off our US “Hometown” mini-tour. Philadelphia - August 9, 2025

Friday night, I crashed a party. Saturday morning, I said I was sorry, but I ventured out again that night with no reservation. And why not? There was a no cover charge at Tom N Jerry's Sports Pub in Folsom, PA. The lineup was guaranteed not to disappoint, and it wouldn't cost me anything more than a couple of rounds I would have done elsewhere that would have offered no entertainment in addition.

The area cover band Denim and Leather was the main attraction. Aside from a stumble and fall on the part of the group's vocalist at the start of the show and a few technical difficulties throughout, Denim and Leather put forth a two set collection of classic Metal songs from the likes of Dio, Saxon, Krokus, Kiss, and Twisted Sister among others. I've caught the act before, and the familiarity of songs does tend to keep a crowd engaged, which is expected when a venue brings in a cover act. But I am always looking for more of the unexpected. And for a moment, I felt that it would elude me this particular night.

However, this was not the case, and things played out differently for the opening act from my point of view. The Philadelphia-based, all original traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary started the night off in a way that not only caught everyone off guard but set a tone for what, we in attendance, were in store for.

As one audience member plainly put it following their set, "Face melting." And as an onlooker, that's precisely what it was. Corners of Sanctuary delivered what equated to being in a ring for a 15 round slug fest with hard and heavy music. There was no overlooking who came in swinging. And the only bell was at the end of their set. The band even treated us with an unexpexted, electrifying, and driving version of "Paranoid" in honor of Ozzy. I guess when in Rome... I mean, it was a cover night. But this version really upped the anty and gave way to the band's closing number. Start big, end bigger. That's the American Rock n Roll way.

Rock is not dead despite the popular belief and the current climate of countless cover and tribute bands making their way onto the local circuits. It's a matter of choice on the part of the audience. That same audience that often complains there isn't anything new or worth listening to. Rather than trying something new or investing some time to explore and discover, many, if not most, take the easy way out and stick to what they already know; nothing new is given a chance. But things need to change and change fast if both music and bands are to flourish. If music is the soundtrack of our lives, I think it's about time we change the record.
