In August WDNP became aware another local radio station, just south of Dover/Phila had asked the FCC to open the 102.3 frequency for public bidding. This other station hopes to win this auction, and expand their FM signal to 6,000 watts. WDNP is a nonprofit, and cannot afford to even enter the bidding for our own frequency. If the FCC opens the bidding, DNP 102.3 ceases to exist.
The FCC has now opened a “Period of Public Comment” on the matter. The public may submit their opinion on the situation, explaining why they support or do not support the 102.3 FM frequency becoming available. This is our last, best chance to save WDNP. If enough people can submit reasons why the FCC should deny opening the frequency and the FCC were to agree, this should put the matter to rest for many years.
This is where you come in. When you click the link below, it will take you to the FCC Comments Page. While the page is pretty intuitive, there are a few things you need to know:
FCC Comment Link: https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/standard?proceeding[name]=22-337
Proceeding ID is: 22-337
Type of Filing: Comment
Once you enter your name, address, etc., go to the very bottom of the page. There you enter your comment as an attachment. You should already have it typed out, as it must be an attached file. They recommend a file type like a word document, or a pdf.
In your statement, please identify who you are, and what organization you represent. You should indicate if you have any vested personal interest or benefit from the proposal. Then just talk about how nonprofit WDNP has helped, benefited, or worked with your group, help us show our worth to the community and its people. Please be positive, mention that we offered our services for free, and that we are the only radio station in the area that does this at no cost. Your comment becomes public record, so be truthful and sincere.
