For our next Ride With Purpose in 2 weeks, we’ll be meeting at (4210 Trumbull, Detroit) between 5-6pm. There we’ll do some work outside in their greenspace, where edible wild plants such as dandelion, nettle, and spearmint are available to collect.

Plan to hit the road around 7pm for a 7.5 mile round-trip bike ride. Come ride with us as we learn about the collective’s mission “to create a positive environment for revolutionary change”. Bring your foraging bag and work gloves for this one!

The Trumbullplex is a BIPOC collective owned and operated non-profit micro-community located in the historic Woodbridge neighborhood of Detroit. Our goal is to combat the negative effects of gentrification in Detroit through creating perpetually affordable housing, and by providing accessible resources to locals and visitors, especially to support creativity, activism, education, and well-being. We accomplish this through a variety of projects, including our perpetually affordable housing collective, DIY gathering space, community greenspace, apothecary, and low-cost photography studio. We believe in curating a safe space with an emphasis on consent culture; we don’t tolerate any form of disrespect, violence or discrimination.

Hey Detroit riders, this is tonight! Meeting at Robert C. Valade Park at 6, then at around 6:30 riding through Detroit, past the Heidelberg Project and back to Valade Park (6+ mile loop)

Next Week: For Ride With Purpose #8, we'll be celebrating Mumia Abu-Jamal's 70th birthday. He's spent over 42 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Still, he's kept fighting for the freedom of black lives, Palestinians, and others who've been oppressed by an unjust system.

Meet-Up: We'll be meeting at Valade Park (2670 Atwater St) on the Detroit River. We'll hang there for about 30 minutes to chat and learn more about Mumia.

Bike route: Then at 6:30pm, we'll embark on a 6-mile bike ride. Our route will take us up the river, under the McArthur Bridge, NE on Grand Blvd to the Heidelberg Project, then back to Valade via the Campau Greenway.

Action: While we ride, we'll stop every so often to take pictures for Mumia. The pictures will be used to create a photobook that we'll send to him — photos that'll remind him of the people still fighting for his freedom.
