Today felt like a great day to reach for this La Chamade sweatshirt.

“La chamade” is a term from old military language, referring to a drum or trumpet, a signal to halt fighting, allowing for propositions such as surrender or a truce.

And I think that says enough.

A few of my favorite moments from this week!

If you’re not familiar, FAB is an educational and inspiring hospitality workshop created for women, by women—hosted right here in Charleston, and attended by powerhouse women from all across the country.

Highlights included:
🎙️ Recording upcoming episodes of and connecting with the incredible , , and
🍽 The food. Truly next level. Snacks between every session (other conferences, take note!) from some of Charleston’s best—including our own
🍷 Alcohol-free wine from
🎤 Panels and conversations led by some of the most influential female founders in hospitality
🛍 A farmer’s market featuring amazing local purveyors

At , we’re lucky to have so many women in leadership—it can be easy to forget how male-dominated this industry still is. I’m deeply grateful to for creating a space that uplifts and centers women in hospitality.

Guess who had Christmas card photos taken in plenty of time, then got really busy with work and travel and completely forgot to have Christmas cards made🎄

We skipped the last two years of Christmas cards because of sadness — forgot this one because of happiness. We’ll take it!

We pray you’re having a Merry Christmas, and that you’re happy and healthy. If you’re grieving this Christmas, we’ve been there and we see you. There is a light at the end of the tunnel — we’re living proof of the light and joy on the other side.

A little levity for a moment: we have Josh’s charcuterie needs met, had a hot breakfast with a latte, and watching my husband wield a chainsaw might be my new favorite thing.

But seriously: we’re holding up well after an historic and unexpected category 4 storm, and we are deeply grateful. Josh was able to make it home from Nashville and grabbed a small generator and groceries in Tennessee. And he might’ve added a few dents on his truck just to get home, but we’ll figure that out later.

We’ve banded together with neighbors to pool resources and I’m so thankful we buy beef a cow at a time — we’ve been able to feed a little over 40 of our neighbors every night. Josh and I provided beef and chicken, and everyone’s pitched in with what they have.

So we are as happy and healthy as we could be at the moment — and so extremely thankful. We hope you’re safe as can be, and are praying for everyone affected by hurricane Helene.
