Some 500 members and friends of First Baptist Church Wetumpka packed the Wetumpka Civic Center this morning (Jan. 20) for worship as daylight revealed the extent of the damage to the church and surrounding area by a tornado that struck around 3 p.m. Jan. 19.

Georgia collects fewer backpacks; 9 Conventions report 2,322 salvations

Not all state conventions met their goals this year, but several fared well. Alabama’s 7,000 goal was surpassed with 9,519 collected; North Carolina surpassed its 12,000 goal by donating 14,340; Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia set a goal of 2,500 and brought in 4,000; and Tennessee surpassed its 2,000 goal with 3,459 being recorded.

Since 2012, Georgia Baptists have contributed 197,936 backpacks for children in Applachia and Ga. 2018 was the first year that their goal wasn't reached.

Equipping Nationals: Jeff Singerman

When Jeff Singerman, an IMB missionary, arrived in Benin, Africa 24 years ago, there were only 25 Baptist churches in the whole country. By the time he left in 2015, there were over 400 Baptist churches with their own Baptist Convention.
