We're thrilled to announce the next event in our Rooftops and Alleyways series: Digital Daydream!

We're partnering with the Carolina Theatre to bring 8 fantastic educational workshops taught by 6 industry professionals and Duke professors, to teach participants the tools of Immersive Experience design!

Workshops take place at the American Underground @ Main during the first two weekends of October (4-5, 11-12), and culminate in a festival-style display of participant work at the Carolina Theatre on October 18th and 19th!

Community Canvas 2024 was a great success!! Despite some rainy weather, 134 folks came out over the course of the evening to experience the AR and Projected Community Art!

Plus, 25 folks competed in the inaugural Bull City Wall Brawl at the Izakaya above Dashi, with the final round projected onto the building as well!

It was pretty sweet! Here are some images in case you missed it.

Hi! We're about 4 days out from the Community Canvas!! Even if we don't reach our funding goal for this event by the time it happens, every bit contributed will help us recoup the costs of the event, making it more likely we can keep doing them in the future!

Some # updates - so far, the amount raised helps us pay for 25% of the cop we've hired to keep watch over the projectors between setup and the event. Or 85% of the scaffolding we're renting to hold the projectors during the event. Or the entire projection scrim! Minimum needs also include the power generator, barricades, staffing/labor, print services....there's a lot that goes into running an event!

Anyway, all this is to say that we really appreciate the funding we've received so far, and it's going to our crucial needs- either to purchase outright or to recoup the costs.

If you haven't contributed already, please consider doing so! This event will happen regardless, but you can think of your contribution as a vote towards more of these kinds of events happening in Durham. And if you can't contribute at this time, that's okay! Please consider sharing this post to your own social media or networks, and of course coming to the event itself! This Saturday behind 413 E Chapel Hill St in downtown Durham. AR starts at 6:30pm, and the projections start at 8:30pm!

Oh, and until then, you may catch a glimpse of some certain windows downtown displaying info about the event alongside other digital art, so keep your eyes out.....

Kickstarter update: our project didn't meet its funding goal, but it's not the end of the Community Canvas! We've done some serious consideration and have decided to revise our approach.

With a new strategy in mind, we've launched a GoFundMe for the Community Canvas that will help us cover our minimum needs for the event: a power generator + stanchions, security from the Durham police department, and the projection scrim. We're now looking to raise $3,200, and it's not all-or-nothing so if we don't meet this goal, we can still utilize the support.

Thank you so much to everybody who backed the first kickstarter! We really appreciate your support of the project. Since kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform, your money will be refunded to you by kickstarter within 30 days, and if you have any issues or problems please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at [email protected].
