A year ago, I published a book that changed my life.

I didn’t have a literary agent.
I didn’t have a publishing deal.
I didn’t have a marketing team.

I had a story.

A story about faith.
A story about identity.
A story about being a Black Muslim woman trying to find herself beneath everything the world told her she should be.

Today, seeing Unboxed: That Black Muslim Girl with a Writer’s Digest Honorable Mention seal feels like a reminder that sometimes the things we build in faith travels farther than we ever imagined.

This book opened doors.
It introduced me to readers around the world.
It led to book fairs, interviews, speaking opportunities, and an entire collection of books that would follow.

Unboxed was never just a memoir.

It was the beginning.

Life Update from the Unboxed Writer

It’s been a while since I’ve updated Facebook, and honestly… life has been life-ing.

Since my last update, I’ve been balancing motherhood, healing, work, fitness, writing, and trying to rebuild myself outside of survival mode. Somewhere between gym sessions, emotional breakthroughs, and late-night writing spirals, I realized I’m not the same woman who first published her debut book.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned recently is that growth rarely looks glamorous while you’re inside of it.

I’ve also been building the Unboxed Universe behind the scenes expanding into new genres, developing darker and more emotionally layered stories, and reconnecting with why I started writing in the first place.

Thank you to everyone still reading my words, supporting my journey, and growing with me. Truly. 🖤
