Decided this one needed a permanent spot on the feed…
I recently got this variegated weeping fig (Ficus benjamina ‘Variegata’), and it has been my absolute favorite plant since my Dad’s passing.
I acquired it just before his passing, but when we kind of knew that was on the horizon… it was interesting because the person looking to “rehome her” was moving and actually pretty devastated to let this one go. She told me that all the seashells around the base of the plant were ones she had collected from Wilmington (NC) over the years — which also happened to be where my Dad was when he was living/left this earth.
I look at it every morning when I walk into my kitchen for coffee, sitting in this east-facing window seat I have, and I just think it’s a nice reminder that even when we’re “weeping” (grieving), it’s because there was/is beauty (love) there.
Does that make it hurt any less? No. But I do love this plant and find peace in it. Even though it’s outside my norm of what I would consider my more typically favored plant types (like Alocasia, anthurium), there’s just something about it. 🫶
