“A Friendship That Changed Comedy Forever”

Back in the late ‘80s, the improv world was about to witness something magical. Whose Line Is It Anyway?—first launched in the UK in 1988 with Clive Anderson—quickly became a global favorite. When the American version hit ABC in 1998, hosted by Drew Carey, fans were blessed with the comedy dream team: Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, and Ryan Stiles.

But here’s the real story everyone loves: Ryan & Colin’s friendship. 💯 Their on-stage chemistry isn’t just acting—it’s years of trust, timing, and laughter that started way before TV fame.

☑️ The first meeting? Sometime in the 1980s, in New Zealand, when Colin dropped by a comedy club where Ryan was performing. That chance encounter turned into late-night gigs together at Vancouver TheatreSports League… and eventually The Second City in Chicago, the comedy playground that launched icons like Chris Farley, Mike Myers, and Dan Aykroyd.

By 1989, Ryan was already making waves on Whose Line UK. Colin had a rougher start—failing his first auditions, even getting cut after one taping—but he never gave up. On his third try, he finally secured his spot… and the rest is improv history.

Since then, these two have been inseparable—whether in the UK run, the US reboot, or tours across the world. Their ability to bounce off each other’s energy is why millions of fans keep coming back for more.
