Letter to Eakly Residents & Friends

FRIENDS OF EAKLY
Concerned citizens of Eakly are invited to a Public Meeting to discuss ways we can improve our community and restore pride in our town. Scheduled for 7 p.m, Tuesday night, June 30, it will be hosted by Eakly First Assembly of God
Church. Everyone interested in the future of Eakly is welcome to attend and give input, information

or ideas that might be utilized in going forward. As in the case of many similar communities, Eakly is now suffering with the loss of supporting business revenue. Funds are not here to do many things that need to be done. City Clerk Lisa Root and staff have told me there are now condemnation and abatement procedures working on at least five properties within the city limits. This is a very needed start in the right direction. In an effort to do our part, I am offering Main Street property owners FREE LABOR and services to anyone who will provide paint and materials to be used on their buildings. If property owners are interested, they may notify us and we will discuss any improvements
Needed. We are now beginning work on the former Eakly United States Post Office. This property belongs to Carolyn Wilburn. She and her family are the first to become involved with Friends of
Eakly. (Gus and Lisa Hinojosa recently redid their building on Main Street). We will be placing identification on the finished work as a historical site for Eakly. The Country Connection News will be repainting the front of the Library Building which they own, and repainting the trim on the newspaper and Southwest Trophy building. Others are now considering work on property in town. We have so many good things going on here, but unfortunately, there are many negative aspects
to blight the landscape and many are giving up the fight. If you want to become a Friend of Eakly, you can volunteer services, donate to a fund to buy equipment, materials or other things to be used in the work we will be doing. Call or contact me at any time at 405-797-3736. Max Yearwood &
