One of the many things we can be thankful for here in November is LOVE. November is a popular month to become engaged!

After the question is popped about if you will take this person to be your lawfully wedded spouse future couples begin to plan their wedding almost immediately!

Other than family and friends to share the great news of your impending nuptials, who else are you going to call?

Well according to my website, usually it's the following:
Venue, Catering, and Rentals
The Jewelry store
Photography and Video
The dress shop, the tuxedo rental store, attire and accessories
THE DJ!
Planning and consulting
Floral Decorations
Invitations
Gifts and Favors and
Beauty and Spa!

With more than 2 million people getting married every year, the West Texas average is about $14,000.00 dollars. Austin and San Antonio spend just over $27,000. And down on the coast, including Houston and Galveston, couples are spending upwards to the national average of $33,000! Florida, Hawaii and New York couples spend double that. Your budget may be less or more, but among all the couples we surveyed, many agree that they want the most value for the dollars they spend.

When planning your wedding, keep these tips in mind:

SAVINGS IDEAS

The peak months for weddings are April, May, and June.
On a tight budget? Save money when you consider scheduling your wedding during the off-peak months.
Don’t space it out. Your reception should follow your ceremony.
Look for venues that offer all-inclusive packages ie linens, food, tables and chairs rather than renting separately
Saturday is the most popular day of the week for weddings. Consider a Friday or Sunday wedding, many times venues will give you a price break for these days.
Plan your guest list carefully, remember each person you invite adds up!

And our #1 piece of Savings advice is: BOOK EARLY. BOOK NOW. DON’T WAIT!

My November special saves you 25% on future 2026 wedding and reception reservations. This could save you from 250 to 325 dollars!

For reservation information, see my website! Check to see if your date is still available at https://texasbestdjs.com/weddings.php .

I WILL save you money on your entertainment in 2026!

Couples have asked me if they need to hire a separate Emcee for the reception. For me, that answer is NO, I will be your Emcee and DJ for the evening.

This question should always be asked. You might be surprised at your wedding when you find out that the DJ has no oratory skills.

A wedding is a whirlwind of emotions, moments, and memories, and keeping it all flowing smoothly requires more than just a great playlist.

Enter the emcee—a pivotal figure who guides the event, sets the tone, and ensures every moment shines.

Not all DJs can emcee, which then may require the couple to pay for an additional person to announce the events.

This is not an issue with Texas Best DJS. I offer the professionalism of an experienced disc jockey combined with the oratory expertise of a seasoned emcee. Meaning with my services as your wedding DJ, you’ll also get the services of an Emcee that will keep your guests informed and entertained throughout the evening.

LET'S DANCE!

Bride and Groom, here's a pro tip from a wedding industry professional: when you select your dance music for your reception, make sure that YOU BOTH dance along with your requests.

The #1 issue I see when playing the couple's request list is when the couple is absent from the dance floor, fewer guests will feel inclined to dance. But when the couple is on the dance floor, more of their guests will join them.

In addition, when you select your playlist for dancing, keep your guests, family and friends music tastes in mind. Will there be a larger number of older family in their 60s+ there? And parent aged guests 40+? Are your friends typically dressed day to day in loafers and flats, or as here in Texas, boots and heels?

As a DJ, when I review the guests, (it's called reading the crowd in DJ speak), I'll determine instantly what I know will work best when I'm seeing a lot of boots at the table or a lot of comfortable street shoes.

Call them cowboy boots if you want, but for many wearers of boots, it's just a shoe and not necessarily a label. For these guests, most likely I'm coming out with a classic country 80s and 90s mix with 2000s favorites then slowly work in the couple's requests.

Then again, if I'm seeing more loafer style street or dress shoes, this tells me a more upbeat top pop selection and a mix of 80s 90s may be better suited for the crowd. Again though, I'm mixing in the couple's song requests, too.

Just know that no DJ can guarantee that your friends and family will dance at your wedding. I give couples the opportunity to select most all of their music. This is not the norm. Most DJs in this industry just play what The Knot or Wedding Wire tells them you want to hear.

Not me. I believe that the bride has been planning her wedding since childhood and has a specific list of music she wants included. I also believe that since this is her and his wedding, that they should have the most input, especially when it comes to selecting most of the music.

I always tell my clients that they can request up to 80% of the songs, but I reserve 20% input, to insert the other songs that from my experience, work with the couple's list. With your input, I'll do my best to keep your guests entertained and dancing.

As I state in my contract, as good as I am in this business, it is impossible to guarantee that everyone will stay to enjoy the entertainment until the end of the night.

A lot of factors decide the outcome of your party including food, refreshments, the age of the guests, those with children, those that have a long drive going home and/or those that are only tired, and as to the topic of this conversation, your music selection.

Typically, you can expect your guests to come for The Wedding, The Dinner and The Cake, and then after that, you can expect to see your guests begin to leave. It is no reflection on your party or on the DJ. It is just the way wedding receptions are.

All I can do is mix your and my music to get your guests onto the dance floor. And hope to see you both dancing together more often than not. Failing that, then hope that when it is time for you to leave, at the very least those that love you the most have stayed to send you off!

Pro Wedding Planning Tip:
After more than 30 years in the wedding industry and over 1,000 weddings, I've noticed that there always is a late guest arrival —no matter how clearly the invitation states the ceremony time.
For example, at a recent wedding, despite a 6pm start time and most guests arriving early, like many weddings before, there were a few stragglers that continued to rush in well past the hour, delaying the ceremony. This happens almost every time.
My advice: secretly schedule your ceremony to begin 15 minutes later than the stated time to accommodate late arrivals and ensure everyone can settle before proceedings begin.

What does a wedding DJ cost?

According to a recent post sourced from The Knot and Wedding Wire, the average cost for a professional wedding DJ in the Southwest region including Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas typically range from $1,000 to $2,500.

Several factors decide the cost of your DJ and MC, including location and experience. An inexperience DJ may offer lower rates ($300 to $600) while an experienced veteran with a strong reputation and 20+ years of experience will command a premium ($1,000.00 to $4,000.00+).

In addition, highly rated DJs who can provide 50+ references are priced higher due to proven reliability and masterful Emcee and DJ skills. And the DJ who is also a polished Master of Ceremonies (MC), who can act as your wedding music and reception music coordinator, speaker and advisor usually demands a higher fee.

When searching for a DJ for your wedding, you do want the services of an MC to provide the necessary information for your guests as they arrive or wait for your appearance and as the evening progresses. Because of this, many times the MC is valued higher than a club or karaoke DJ who simply presses play or mixes extremely well.

The amount of time the DJ is committed to your wedding is also a fundamental cost driver. This includes:
Performance Hours: The actual time the DJ is playing music and hosting (i.e. a 4- to 6-hour reception). Overtime beyond the contracted hours is almost always an added hourly fee. Some wedding DJs charge by the hour, which can add up quickly, but others offer a flat rate for the entire day.

Total Coverage: Most couples need music during just the reception. Adding coverage for a rehearsal then dinner, the ceremony, a cocktail hour, or an after-party, requires extra equipment and time, which commonly increases the total cost.

Prep and Logistics: The quoted fee usually covers many hours of work before the event that couples rarely see, including consultations and planning, contract creation, multiple consults either in person or email, music planning and acquisition, and the labor towards loading, traveling, set up, break down and reloading to and from the event.

Another area that most couples don’t consider is that a professional DJ’s fee reflects the significant investment they make in reliable, high-quality gear.

Sound System: The cost of professional-grade speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, a DJ booth, and mixers is built into the price. Larger venues or high guest counts may require a larger, more powerful, or added sound system.

Multiple Setups: If the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception area are in different areas of the venue, the wedding DJ may need to provide, set up, and manage multiple sound systems, increasing the equipment and labor costs.

Microphones: High-quality wireless microphones for speeches, toasts, and the officiant and couple (for the ceremony) are included in the overall equipment cost.

Backup Gear: Reputable DJs factor in the cost of owning and supporting backup equipment to ensure a seamless experience, even in case of failure.

Where and when the wedding takes place can significantly affect the final price.

Geographic Region: DJs in major metropolitan areas, high-cost-of-living cities, or popular wedding destinations often charge more due to higher operating costs and demand.

Travel Fees: If the venue is outside of the DJ’s standard service area, they may charge a travel fee to cover mileage, gas, vehicle wear, and other time spent traveling.

Event Date: The most expensive day for a wedding DJ is typically a Saturday during peak season (e.g., May, June, September, October). Off-peak months (January-April, July and August, November and December) or weekday weddings often come with lower rates.

Budget Allocation: When you are planning your wedding and reception, industry experts suggest allocating $1,300 to $1,900 for wedding entertainment, which is typically 5%-8% of the total wedding budget. Don’t shop for the cheapest DJ, because the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ is especially true when deciding on your entertainment. Music and the DJ’s coordination have a disproportionately significant impact on guest experience compared to other wedding professionals, and hiring the cheapest DJ could spell doom for your celebration’s success.

The Bottom Line
Deciding what wedding entertainment specialist, you need for your once in a lifetime event can be confusing, because some DJs in this market will say they do weddings, though they are more interested in getting your money and are not really the seasoned wedding professional you’re looking for. There is a stark difference between playing the songs the DJ wants to play and catering to you and your guest’s favorite music that they will get on the floor and dance with.

Always ask for references and be prepared to check those references. The professional wedding DJ will have more than 50 references to share with you, with most of those from the year you are shopping for your entertainer.
