Hello Friends of Eastland,

The Alliance for Eastland’s Future started with all of you in mind—a simple idea to help our community shine a little brighter. We’ve been on quite a journey since then. We’ve made some great friends and connections, ruffled a few feathers along the way (sometimes without meaning to), and learned a ton about what it really takes to make a difference.

A while back, a good friend of mine shared a bit of honest insight. They mentioned the Alliance was being watched, and that some folks and organizations weren’t quite sure if we were here to work with everyone or just do our own thing. That conversation stuck with me. It was a humbling moment, and it sparked some real heart-to-hearts within our group.

It made us realize we might have lost some of you in the noise. So, we’ve done some thinking, listened hard, and decided it’s time to get back to our roots and make our mission crystal clear.

Here’s the plain-spoken truth of where we’re headed:

We’re the Alliance for Eastland’s Future. We’re a hometown, boots-on-the-ground group that believes positive growth starts with people, not just plans. Our main job now? To be the biggest cheerleader, connector, and helper for the volunteers and organizations who are already out here doing the good work.

What’s that look like in practice?

We’re going to spotlight the folks who are the real heart of Eastland—the volunteers who show up, the neighbors who lend a hand, the local groups making things happen.
We’re going to roll up our sleeves and organize projects that tackle real needs, like we just did with our month-long food drive. (A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped us gather over 750 pounds of food for the Eastland County Food Pantry!)

We’re going to champion that good ol’ Eastland pride, the kind that comes from knowing your community has your back and you have its.

We know we haven’t been perfect. We own that. This refocus is our way of saying we’re listening, we’re learning, and we’re committed to being a positive, constructive part of Eastland’s story—not a source of division.

We believe the best future is built together, with humility, hard work, and a whole lot of community spirit. If that sounds like your kind of mission, we’d be honored to have you alongside us.

Together, we build a future of greatness!
Your friends at The Alliance for Eastland’s Future

Our Friends in Breckenridge need some help. They are out of water. If you have it within your capabilities to aid our Northern neighbors I'm sure they would be most appreciative.

Eastland County, you’ve done it again—showing the true power of community pride and unity! Today marks the close of the Eastland Feeds Eastland Food Drive, and what an incredible display of togetherness it has been. From November 10 to December 10, this community stepped up in a big way. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of local businesses and organizations, you helped collect a grand total of…

759.2 Pounds of goods!!!

This tremendous effort brings vital support and hope to the Eastland County Food Pantry. Executive Director Patty Cole said the results of the food drive “show just how much this community comes together” in times of need. The donations have saved the pantry significantly on food expenses, freeing up funds to extend their mission. When asked what impact this drive made, Patty explained, “We will keep doing this until the Lord tells us we can’t,” highlighting the pantry’s ongoing commitment.

The Eastland County Crisis Center, Inc. also reflected on the importance of the mission, stating: “The food drive was important to ECCC because the Eastland County Food Pantry plays a crucial role in serving our clients in moments of crisis! Without the teamwork of our community partners, many needs would go unmet.”

This drive truly showcased a grassroots movement of neighbors supporting neighbors—and how quickly Eastland mobilizes to meet urgent needs. Sponsor Page Outdoors echoed this spirit, sharing: “The desire to build community relations was the driving force in our decision to sponsor this event. Working with others within the community is how we bridge gaps and support one another.”

Indeed, this community put aside differences to help those nearby, proving that when there’s a need, Eastland steps in. The Page’s added, “We were given the opportunity to help facilitate a local food drive. There was no reason not to participate. See a need, fill a need.”

These donations mean the world to the Eastland County Food Pantry and the clients they serve. With monthly expenses running about $6,000, every contribution helps stretch their resources, ensuring our community is fed and supported longer into the future.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this drive a success:

Many of you followed us when we were posting historical facts of the county and city so we have decided to get our archivist/amateur historian to dig through our research. Here is what he found and had to say:

In February of 1928, Edwin Dakan, the city secretary for City of Eastland, Texas, had written a letter to the local boy scout troop. At this time, Dakan was confined to his bed from a serious illness and he had seen a story in the Eastland Telegram that the Boy Scouts had erected bird houses in the fairly new City Park. Dakan, being a bird watcher and former 'Lone Scout', took great appreciation in the project. In his letter, he conveyed that he wished he could join the Boy Scouts at the park to marvel at the completion of this project but alas his condition limited him to writing a letter of appreciation. In his letter, Dakan encouraged the Boy Scouts to continue their mission and he related as he too once participated in preservation of birds.

This article is from the Ranger Times newspaper where part of Dakan's letter was published. City Secretary Dakan was an integral member of establishing the city park, so surely the commitment from the Boy Scouts in making the park beautiful and welcoming to both animals and citizens brought a warm smile to Dakan. Sadly, in the same year, 1928, Dakan passed away. Today he is buried in the Eastland Cemetery.
