The Marquis Volume 43 has been completed, but publication will, unfortunately, be postponed due to COVID-19. We are hopeful that we will be able to get printed copies during the fall of this year. For current seniors, we will contact you when the magazines come in, and will help make arrangements to get you a copy if you wish. We will be holding distribution events on campus as well. Once the fall semester begins, we will be accepting work for Volume 44 via our email [email protected], no matter the situation. More information on next semester will come soon.

As a way to spotlight the amazing work we received this year, and the talented artists who contributed, the full magazine is published in PDF form on our website! The link is in our profile. Thank you to everyone who submitted over the course of this year, and thank you to the Lafayette community for its unwavering and dedicated support.

Our fifth Staff Member of the Week is Emma Weaver! Emma sent us a picture and answered randomly selected questions from our staff and board:

LitMag: What is your favorite suburban momβ„’ insult?

Emma Weaver: That's so... quaint, Helen!

L: Who would win in a fight: a digital clock or an analog one?

E: Analog, because it'd be hard for digital to fight without hands

L: Who is your favorite writer?

E: It's hard to pick a favorite. I'm a fan of Neil Hilborn though

L: If you were an amusement park ride which one would you be?

E: A wooden roller coaster

L: Sweet dreams are made of this. What is "this"?

E: Idk chemicals in your brain or something. What do you take me for, a chemist?

Our 4th Staff Member of the Week is Sydney Schock! Sydney sent us a photo and answered randomly selected questions from the LitMag staff and board:
LitMag: Which is mightier: the pen or the llama?
Sydney Schock: The pen held by the llama.
L: What kind of shampoo does Rapunzel use???
S: Too much.
L: Would you rather listen to: a chicken play the banjo or a T-rex play an electric guitar?
S: T-Rex play electric guitar. Duh.
L: Where's your favorite place on campus to study?
S: Wherever there’s free food.
L: What's your favorite Shakespearean insult?
S: Wherever there’s free food.

Our 3rd Staff Member of the Week is Kyle Low! Kyle sent us a photo and answered randomly selected questions from the LitMag staff and board:

LitMag: Do you like sniffing scented candles or Italian food?

Kyle Low: I don't really like to sniff Italian food. What's the fun of smelling the Italian food if you can't just eat it? I like to sniff scented candles if they don't remind me of food.

L: What's your least favorite digit?

K: 1. It looks pretty bland compared to the others.
Off topic tangent: My favorite set of digits is 328 because it was Godzilla's height in the early 2000 movies.

L: The troll kills you for crossing the bridge, why did you cross the bridge?

K: Godzilla vs. King Kong was having an early screening across the bridge.

L: Do you dream of riding a velociraptor into battle into a nightclub on a nightly basis?

K: Not quite. I prefer a Utahraptor as my steed.

L: Would you like to do the joust with an ostrich?

K: Yes, I would ride this ostrich into a most glorious battle.

Our second Staff Member of the Week is Olivia Scott! Olivia sent us a picture and responded to questions by the LitMag staff:

LitMag: Favorite form of water?
Olivia: My favorite form of water is crystallized around tiny dust particles (snow)
L: What would *you* do for an off brand chocolate coated ice cream bar?
O: I would buy one???
L: Who would win in a fight, a rock or The Rock?
O: This is the classic "unstoppable force vs. immovable object" question. It's a paradox- the fight would last for eternity and neither the rock nor The Rock would win.
L: Favorite fun fact (or not so fun fact)????
O: My favorite fun fact is: otters hold hands while they sleep!
L: Which emoji describes your life?
O: πŸ‘πŸΌ

Our first staff member of the week is Kaitlin McNamara! Kaitlin sent in a picture and answered questions written by the rest of the staff:

LitMag: Who is your favorite writer?

Kaitlin: My favorite writer is Betty Smith

L: Do you think licking doorknobs should be illegal on other planets?

K: I don't think licking doorknobs should be illegal on other planets. Licking doorknobs doesn't hurt anyone, so there shouldn't be any rules against it. The only alien civilizations that would penalize doorknob licking would be extremely strict governments. Extremely strict governments usually don't treat their people well, and because they are so strict they tend to be efficient in amassing an empire. Which means they would have powerful militaries. So these strict governments are more likely to invade earth and succeed and subjugate us all to their tyrannical rule. so no, I think it should be legal in order to protect my own basic freedoms.

L: What's your favorite G-rated insult?

K: My favorite G-rated insult is "you uncultured swine"

L: How many exclamation points are too many?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

K: More important than the number of exclamation points is how it is grouped. It's important to use exclamation points in groups of threes because four looks strange but six looks fine. However, once the number of exclamation points exceeds one line then it's too much, or if the sentence preceding the exclamation point is smaller than the number of exclamation points.

L: On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love lit mag (heart love kiss)?

Get LITerary. Thank you to Caroline Russell for taking our staff picture - we've got quite the group here, and we're serious about having a LITerary time. We are meeting again tomorrow, March 2, and there will be pizza!! Stop by Pardee 113 for a good time.

This week's staff member is AJ Traub!

1) What is your proudest achievement?
- Probably robbing a home-run at baseball camp as a kid. I have an eye disorder, so it has always been tough to play sports. Robbing a home-run without being able to see the ball was something I'm definitely really proud of.

2) What was the last thing you ate?
- I had a bagel this morning.

3) What is your favorite thing about the human face?
- Nobody nose. But actually, smiling is the best.

4) If you were going to be two kinds of animal (like a centaur except cooler) what would those two animals be? Paint us a word picture.
- Imagine a crossover between a penguin and a cardinal. The wings of the cardinal, combined with the flippers and swimming ability of the penguin. This creature is adaptable to multiple environments and can walk, swim, and fly! Visually, it combines the lovable goofball that is the penguin with the badass cardinal. Also, what's black and white and red all over?

Come to this week's meeting (which is def tomorrow despite the fact that Christine dropped the ball and has yet to put the submissions together; feel free to bring tomatoes to throw at her). Tomorrow, 5:45pm, Pardee 113!!

Staff member of the week is Emma Weaver! Emma is another new staff member this year, and she's answered the following questions:

1) What makes you bored?
- Watching sports with people who are un-ironically interested in sports.

2) Describe yourself using objects, one of which must be a plant.
- A blue LED, an empty notebook, and a sundew plant.

3) Who was your last text to and can you say what it was about?
- The squad group chat, deciding where to get dinner. Because food is life.

4) What does your grandmother smell like?
- A person, I would hope.

Thanks Emma! Can't wait to see you tomorrow at 5:45 in Pardee 113! (All are welcome to join us!)

We are still looking for submissions! Send anything from haikus, limericks, sestinas, free form, song lyrics, prose, flash fiction, short stories, photography, paintings, and if I forgot something but you're like, "Hey, I like this and maybe it will be published," send that, too!

Say hello to our first staff member of the week! This is Sarah Heins and she answered some questions for us:

1) If you could live in any fantasy world, where would you live?
- The Harry Potter Universe
2) If you could hug anyone, who would it be?
- My mom
3) What is your favorite topping to put on ice cream?
- Whipped cream
4) If you could have one mostly useless superpower, what would it be?
- To instantly switch the positions of any two objects I could reasonably lift, but only if they are within 10 feet of each other.

Sarah is an awesome member on our staff, and we love your picture! Come meet her and our other amazing members Thursdays at 5:45, in Pardee 113! And check back on our page every Wednesday for our staff member of the week!
