Tune in at 10 this morning and join the Musical History Tour for a "two-for-one" special!

This week, we explore interpretations of country music with Ray Charles and his 1962 landmark album, "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music".

We'll listen to two versions of each song for comparison: the original (think Eddy Arnold, Hank Williams, Don Gibson), followed by Ray's version - "two-for-one"!

June Carter "Tennessee Mambo"

Tune in tomorrow morning at 10 for another edition of the Musical History Tour!

We'll welcome in the month of June with the music of June Carter Cash. June was born into the Carter Family, the First Family of Country Music. As a young woman on the Grand Ole Opry, she was better known for her folksy comedy skits than for her singing. We'll hear some of both!

The Carter Sisters, Mother Maybelle, Carl Smith and Johnny Cash make appearances, too.

Hope to have you along! - KT

Here's June on the Grand Ole Opry, joking with Marty Robbins and singing with Mother Maybelle and sister Helen.

Sorry to report - No 6-string show this week. Doctor’s orders, no toe tapping. Actually I’m in the bed rest phase of recovery from a bad ankle break and surgery - and propped in a V on the sofa in an toes above your nose healing position. So no toe tapping, mosh dancing, the pogo - or any other of the spontaneous body movements that accompany that 6 String music. We'll take it week by week but Jeff Henry will be in to start the show next week. I feel fortunate that it was just a broken ankle and assorted cuts and bruises as I was hit by a pickup truck last Thursday biking home before the show. My helmet served me well as I went over the hood and crimped the windshield with the left side of my helmet - and then was bounced across the intersection skidding on the right side of my helmet. Never blacked out, and thankfully no head, neck or back injuries from the 25 mph jolt - just the first broken bones - ankle and fibula - of my life. . . and a whole new appreciation for what each day may bring. For the short term it is toes above nose - and thinking of all that my friends have added to my life.
