UIL State 4A DII Regional Finals
Cuero Gobbles Up Rockport-Fulton
(Corpus Christi, Texas)-The 15-4A DII Cuero Gobblers (12-1) RB Camelo Perez rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns as they eliminated the 15-4A DII Rockport-Fulton Pirates (8-5) 48-27 to advance to the University Interscholastic League 4A DII Quarterfinals. Game is set for Heroes Stadium on Friday in San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. and the Gobblers will play 15-5A DII Sinton Pirates (12-1). The winner will play Waco La Vega or West Orange Stark in the 4A DII semifinals.
The Gobblers were hungry. In the second half, quarterback Jaxxon Marie (2,525 passing 40 TDs) went to his go-to-receiver, Walker Dietze (1,374 rec yards 23 TDs) on a 45-yard one-handed catch inside the red zone. A few plays later, the Gobblers scored. Marie, again found Dietze on a 35-yard slant to put the Pirates away for good. Marie ended the night with 16-of-22 for 257 yards passing and two touchdowns. The Gobblers also added five rushing touchdowns for 264 yards. Dietze finished the night with nine catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
