One of the things I’m really focused on as GM of our CDJR store is keeping things transparent, with our team and with our customers. The car business gets a bad rap sometimes, and I get why. But I’ve seen over and over that being straight-up honest and actually investing in people is what builds real success.
We’re not just moving metal. I’m trying to build careers. I make time to be out on the sales floor, in the service department, and sitting down with our younger team members. There’s nothing better than watching someone who was nervous on their first deal turn into a confident closer who’s now helping train the next group coming up.
Leadership to me isn’t about pretending I have all the answers. It’s about creating a place where people feel okay asking questions, messing up, learning from it, and growing. The future of this industry is going to be shaped by the young talent we bring in today.
If you’re in the car business, whether you’re just starting out, a seasoned pro, or running your own team, I’d love to hear your take:
• What’s one piece of advice you wish you got early on?
• How are you developing the next generation at your store?
• What does real transparent leadership look like to you day-to-day?
