A lot happened at Edmond’s May 26 council meeting beyond the big-ticket stories.

Council also approved a Broadway U-Haul project, shifted $1.7M in water and wastewater funds, moved a downtown mixed-use project forward, approved Coffee Creek substation equipment, lined up more water and sewer work, renewed a jail agreement, approved a downtown monarch mural and authorized a lawsuit settlement.

Routine votes, but they add up.

The May 26 Edmond City Council and Public Works Authority meeting has already produced stories on three major items (Read Here):

Edmond’s proposed $485M budget is headed toward a final vote June 8.

The budget projects flat sales tax growth, adds 21 new positions and continues major infrastructure spending.

But the bigger question is what happens next: several fund balances are projected to shrink, union contracts are still unsettled, and one resident urged the city to take a harder five-year look at reserves, staffing and long-term costs.

Flat sales tax projections, new staffing plans and shrinking fund-balance concerns frame Edmond’s next budget vote.

🇺🇸 Edmond’s LibertyFest is getting an extra milestone frame this year.

The 2026 celebration ties together America’s 250th birthday, Route 66’s 100th anniversary and LibertyFest’s long-running Edmond tradition.

Events run June 25 through July 4, building toward the downtown parade and fireworks at UCO.

America’s 250th birthday and Route 66’s centennial give this year’s Fourth of July celebration extra weight.

Microchip your pets.
Keep them leashed in public.

Call Animal Services before trying to handle a stray yourself.

From lost pets and leash laws to low-cost spay-and-neuter clinics, the city’s shelter supervisor says animal welfare works best when residents know how to help.

Covell and Sooner are back in the growth spotlight.

Three major projects are headed to City Council on June 8:

Edmond may change how residents request public records.

The update adds rules around request forms, deposits and video pickup.

Why it matters: process determines whether public access is easy, slow or harder to navigate.

Edmond is rewriting how it handles public-records requests, adding new requirements for how residents ask, what they pay and how they pick up video.

Pelican Bay is almost back.

Edmond says the $7.2M renovation is nearing the finish line, but the opening date is still “fluid.”

Officials are hopeful for early July.

That would mean a shorter summer season than originally planned.

Edmond’s main public aquatic center is close to reopening after a $7.2 million renovation, but the city now says the opening date remains fluid.

Edmond approved a new 55+ project near Bryant and Smiling Hill.

The Stables at Hallmark would allow up to 60 age-restricted residential units, plus commercial uses along Bryant.

The vote was unanimous, but the details matter: private roads, drainage, tree preservation and coordination with Oklahoma City will all shape what happens next.

The takeaway: It’s a small housing project with bigger edge-of-city questions.

A 60-unit 55+ project brings new attention to private roads, drainage and Edmond’s southern border.
