Howdy!
Its been a minute since I have given an update on what has been going on over here.
Dumb Reminders did not reach its funding goal on kickstarter, not even close. That was a heart wrenching gut punch to say the least. Dumb Reminders is a story I am compelled to tell and share with the world(or the sentimental types who pick it up). That being said, its production will continue, just slower than I hoped.
The self funding/publishing aspects of comic creation has been fun and...frustrating.
I get it through, I'm a new creator/writer. So I am untested/proven, unknown and broke. A unhappy combination of invisibility in a sea of creatives, brands and influencers who currently have the means and "sauce" to make waves. In this increasingly tough economic and cultural maelstrom of a world I understand why something simply is.
With tight wallets, why spend $10 on my first book The Reckoning #1(written by an unknown) when you could buy Ultimate Spiderman by Jonathan Hickman or TMNT by Jason Aaron and reasonably know it's going to be decent read/art at the least. So little buyers remorse. BTW this isn't a diss on the pros or any one on the way up, just a observation.
I will concede that some frustration(jelousy? envy?) comes from personal circumstances. Being poor on a fixed income of S.S. and spousal support, chronic disability by way of paralysis and VERY limited family support makes endeavors extremely difficult. Being shut off or slowed from creating art due to physical/economic paywalls is disheartening.
Do mot mistake this for a need of pity or declaration of victimhood. I am known for being persistent, dogged and plain stubborn to give up. I told myself I was going to work in live sound/music production and I did. I boxed in the amateurs(including the AZ Golden Gloves) broke my hand, ribs and nose without quitting and I created The Reckoning #1. All these things I did when everyone I talked to responded with a dismissive "cool story bro".
So, the work continues because I do too.
