A federal court has blocked Texas’s mid-decade congressional map after finding it was shaped by racial discrimination and likely unconstitutional. Texas must now return to the 2021 map for the upcoming elections. This decision protects representation for Hispanic and Black residents across the state and keeps discriminatory lines from taking effect in 2026.

A federal court in El Paso just wrapped up hearings on whether Texas Republicans used race to draw a congressional map that gives Hispanic and Black residents far less political power than White Texans.

The facts are clear: race drove this entire process. Trump’s Justice Department sent Texas a letter falsely claiming that districts made up of Hispanic and Black voters were unconstitutional. Texas Republicans used that letter to justify redrawing the map — and in federal court, the Republican operative who drew it admitted under oath that he saw that letter before it ever reached the governor’s desk, yet still claimed race wasn’t a factor.

This is the civil rights fight of our time.

Race has been at the center of Texas’s redistricting from the start. Hispanic Texans hold only about one-third the political power of white Texans, and Black Texans only about one-fifth—making Hispanics the most underrepresented residents in the nation.

This fight is about fairness, accountability, and whether Texas government truly represents the people it serves. Follow us for more updates!

HB18 punishes small donors — the teachers, nurses, and veterans who chipped in to support their representatives during the quorum break.

Meanwhile, lobbyists and special interests can spend near unlimited amounts to wine, dine, and bankroll the stays of state reps without ever having to disclose names or amounts spent.

This bill silences the voices of ordinary Texans while protecting the power of the lobby. Rep. Perez called out Republicans for their hypocrisy.

Government has never been bigger and more powerful and SB 12 continues Republican efforts to grow Texas government like a cancer, further consolidating their power in Austin.

🚨 House Republicans are trying to punish us with nearly $10,000 in fines for standing up against their racially engineered maps. These penalties are designed to intimidate and silence — but I refuse to back down as the proposed map means one white resident in Texas is now equal to 5 Black residents and 3 Latino residents under this map.

I will not be intimidated. I will continue to fight for fair maps and equal representation.

The lawyers drew the new congressional map to dilute the voting power of Black and Latino Texans to rig the midterms for Donald Trump.
