Please join DRP next Saturday, Nov 16th for a very special talk with .mejorado and our editor at Kinfolk House in Fort Worth, TX. This event brings together two prominent voices in photography and Latinx Art as they discuss the creative journeys and processes that have shaped their visual art practices respectively. Mejorado, who is featured in the upcoming exhibition “Diaries of Home” at will discuss her recent projects and current work. Rodriguez, who published Mejorado’s “La Pulga” photobook will share insight into his approach to publishing and own photographic explorations since their debut collaboration in 2017. The event is hosted by and ! We invite photographers and visual artists to join the conversation and listen in on how they can harness photography as a medium for story telling and social impact.

In our latest interview, Itzel Alejandra (.gif) sits down with Ingrid Leyva to discuss her new photo book Life is Tough... But So Are You. Itzel is a Mexican-American interdisciplinary artist from El Paso, TX currently living in Brooklyn, NY. She has documented the lives and stories of the Latine community+ in New York and Texas working for major media outlets such as NPR, Vice, Elle, and Remezcla. Through a powerful collection of images taken along the El Paso/Ciudad Juárez border, Alejandra reflects on her evolving relationship with the region as the background for her own story. She shares her thoughts on navigating the complexities of her personal experience within this borderland, offering an intimate look at identity, place, and resilience. Life is Tough... Richard Sharum () is an editorial and documentary photographer based in Dallas, Texas. He is known for his intimate focus on socio-economic and social justice issues. In his latest project and soon be photo book, Spina Americana, he examines the diverse cultures along America’s “spine,” The central region from the U.S/Mexico border to the Canadian. By capturing the daily lives of various individuals, including mechanics, surgeons, and migrant laborers, Sharum highlights their contributions and the divisions in contemporary America, emphasizing that these divisions are temporary and obstructive, with hope for unity through observation. Last feature of 2023! Check out the work of Troy Ezequiel Montes, a Houston-based photographer and native Texan from Dayton. In his most recent body of work, Cielo Azul/Cielo Nublado, he captures the life and legacy of his ancestral pueblo, El Porvenir, in Zacatecas, Mexico. His work vividly preserves the rich aspects of daily life, traditions, and the enduring spirit of El Porvenir, paying homage to his cultural heritage and personal roots.

Our last interview this year is with San Antonio artist, Gabi Magaly (). Magaly graduated with an MFA from the University of San Antonio in 2020 and has been making her way through exhibitions, residencies, and numerous awards nationally and internationally. Her work gives power to women and pushes back on the machismo dynamics that crowd social behaviors, particularly within the Mexican-American community. She channels her voice through a variety of mediums but focuses on image making to tell her story and the story of her family.
