Just got my $37.95 from the Facebook Settlement today. Yep — that’s my share of Meta’s $725 million class-action payout for the company’s (alleged, but let’s be honest, pretty blatant) mishandling of user data.

If you somehow missed it, this all ties back to the Cambridge Analytica scandal — that delightful moment in tech history when millions of Facebook users had their personal information quietly harvested without consent. That data was then used to build psychological profiles and target voters during elections. Translation: it wasn’t just creepy; it was a full-on violation of privacy, ethics, and, for many, democracy itself.

Anyone in the U.S. who had an active Facebook account between May 2007 and December 2022 could file a claim, with payments based on how long your account was active. The checks started rolling out in September 2025, and apparently, my years of “liking” posts, sharing links, and tolerating targeted ads have been valued at… roughly forty bucks.

Look, I get it — using social media means trading some anonymity for connection. But this? This was a wholesale breach of trust. The idea that decades of personal data exploitation are worth the price of a takeout dinner is insulting at best.

Did you file for compensation? If so, how much did you get — and does it feel like justice to you?
