Letter to our fans from Rick O.
“ So it has come to my attention that we are receiving some complaints by email about the content of our shows on HatchetRadio Network from some pretty unpleasant fans. Respectfully, we do not police, our content creators as they provide us with free content and advertisement. Anyone who is involved with HatchetRadio Network or Sinista1 Productions has always had free reign over their content as long as it does not violate any of the social network policies or any federal guidelines that may be restrictive amongst fair use content.
If you do not like the content of any of our shows, sending hateful, mail or private messages is only going to fuel the flames of division even further. All of our shows belong to the content holders and we do not restrict them beyond what the guidelines that they already walked the line on. It has come to my attention more recently that people complained about some of the shows content being too politically driven.
We uphold our first amendment rights to freedom of speech, freedom of opinion, and the ability to propagate subjects that may be hard for some people to swallow. We have content creators who are from different walks of life who come together to provide you guys with a form of entertainment, whether it be political sports or music related. We have never once stepped on the toes of those who are following the rules set out by social networking community standards and by DCMA guidelines.
We work with a lot of entities outside of HatchetRadio in order to provide you guys with quality shows at the expense of the content creators. Why you may not agree with the content that is expressly viewed it is well within the rights of the creator to talk about subjects that might not be pleasant to other others. We have had plenty of contact creators and guests from all walks of life, race, ethnicity religion, and even political affiliations on many shows, and that has not stopped us in the past, nor will it stop us in the future.
Simple and blunt. If you do not like the content, you do not have to listen to it. You do not have to subscribe to it. We are a multi partisan format that allows our content creators to express their opinions and to pull the Band-Aid off of any fresh wound because there are people who will maturely have discussion about these types of shows and enjoy them. We do not support one side or the other, but we do support free press, freedom of speech and freedom of opinion so long as that it does not cross the barrier into hatred or the demeaning value of others.
For over 23 years, we have been the same network that people have tuned into religiously weekly to support the hot topics in the news, regardless of whether the content creator has their own affiliation with parties. Our network is truly what it means to be living the American dream as far as being able to make a statement and to back it up with opinionated facts. Under no circumstances, have we ever supported the hatred of any groups whatsoever.
I get a rash of emails sometimes from different political parties. Based on some of the shows that we create because they are too ignorant to understand the concept of free speech and we will continue to rub people the wrong way in order to stand firm and what we believe in.
Personally speaking, I have been a part of many many podcasts over 23 years with a various amount of guests who have shown up on our doorstep whose opinion I may not have agreed with, but I did respect. Many of our content creators are the exact same way. I feel that sending out unnecessary emails about wanting us to change a platform because it is an uncomfortable platform is trampling on our rights as free journalists, podcasters, and most importantly as American citizens who have worked hard in their areas of expertise to deliver quality streaming.
Some folks have gone as far to even hate on some of our sports shows because they don’t watch football or NASCAR, but that has not stopped us from providing the fans that do with an outlet in which they can feel safe to enjoy a discussion amongst respected individuals.
With the changes that always occur in our government every four years we always get hateful and disrespectful emails and comments from people who claim to be fans of the network, but are nothing more than backseat critics. If you have nothing more to bring to the table, other than an unprofessional, unoriginal, hateful rhetoric filled comment you should expect to be either ignored or on the rare occasion have pushback from a creator or a fan of the network.
We do not govern our comments from fans, unless they are against social network community standards in which we have no choice but to pull those comments. We expect criticism and it is welcome. What is not welcome is hate. We are not a nation of hateful people. We are nation that may be divided amongst many different topics but when it comes to the first amendment, we can all agree that everybody has they say as long as it is not slanderous.
I myself do not get involved in political talk shows that are on the network as much as I used to. There are others on the network who do and we support their rights and will continue to support their rights and will stand up to those who want to topple the obelisk that our country has built on freedom of speech. You can believe that.
This page is monitored by a group of folks who work hard to deliver. You guys amazing content that does not charge a dime for your attention. We have stood up to large corporations over our content and have won and will continue to win on our platform as we promote a lot of major enterprises and entertainment for the purpose for it to go out into the public where it may not reach.
People have accused us of selling out because when we started the network 23 years ago, we were the only underground radio station. We still support independent artists from all walks of life, whether it be rap, rock, horrorcore metal country or whatever may get submitted by an artist that was the main intention of our network from the beginning. Prior to YouTube or Spotify, our network was one of the first to premier artists who were not signed to major recording labels or we’re not played on VH1, MTV, or BET or any national radio play due to the content of their lyrics.
Our network has never been one to shy away from controversial figures nor will that ever stop. We have introduced many artists to our fans over the years who have grown and popularity and even gone mainstream. We have supported sports for nearly 17 years of the 23 years we have been around with shows like The Final Round, The Booth, and The Main Event Sports Show. We have supported content created shows such as Traphouse Rockz, Redwood & The Wolf, Fresh Gurlz F*ck$hop, and even my own show The Rick O Show Live & Uncut. These types of shows have grown our network in the past, and it is not something that we shy away from regardless of the content creator and their affiliations.
In terms to be put lightly, we will not be bullied by any affiliation to change the way we have done things for over 23 years now nor do we have plans on changing it in the future. We have grown to integrate our social network content creators from Facebook live and twitch in order to keep our brand relevant. Our network on the website has been flawlessly online the entire time hosting new talent who has submitted tracks to us to be put into rotation, regardless of whether the staff enjoys the music or not we feel that artists deserve that type of representation that they may not get from other sources and we will continue to grow as long as we draw breath.
The network has never ran away from a fight when it comes to promoting authentic independent acts as well, as from protecting our content creators, and we will not do so in the future. We have never backed down from any political party when it comes to our affiliations because again our affiliations are multi partisan, and in terms that gives us the flexibility to be multifaceted. In other words, we have people from all walks of life who have created content for our network specifically to entertain our fans and as one of the co-owners I support our content creators 110% when it comes to their shows.
You can ask any of our staff past and present and they will tell you that we have given them more than enough room to grow. We do not support hatred of any kind when it comes to speech nor will we ever. Your perception may be the issue in this conversation. We know Republicans are not going to like liberal talk shows. We know that liberals are not going to like Republican talk shows. We don’t care we will support every side of politics, regardless of their background. We have had many cultured content creators on our network and we welcome them.
The fact is is that you cannot make everybody happy when it comes to talk show shows. Podcasters like Joe Rogan or Charlie Kirkman have all endured hateful rhetoric from people who do not like them personally but they are protected by the first amendment, and we have to respect their rights as well as our own, even if we don’t agree with the message that they are sending. This is part of being a grown adult living in America.
Personally, I have friends from all walks of life and I support their causes, even if I don’t necessarily believe in them because they are my friends and I love them, and I want to see them successful in all their ventures. It’s what makes us a strong nation is being able to have civil discourse through speech through rallying together and sometimes even through protest. It is your right. However, it is not your right to trample on other people’s rights and descend into disrespectful and sometimes threatening emails or comments.
We do reserve the right to ban or remove people from our network who do not follow these very basic rules of being a human. Just because you can talk the loudest doesn’t necessarily mean that you are right just because your perception of something is different. Doesn’t always mean that it’s factual. We will not tolerate hateful speech towards others on our network, especially content creators.
If you don’t like it unsubscribe or simply do not tune in. Our network is not yours to troll around on nor is it there for you to reach out to people on a personal basis and drop something in their DM’s or to threaten to dox someone because you don’t agree with their content. Those types of behaviors are illegal and will be met with reinforced action, simple and blunt. We will not be pushed around or bullied by people who think that they bark loud enough that we will change our format that will never happen not on my watch and not on the watch of the other respected owners of their content.
This is our brainchild, and we are very protective of it and have been since it has reached adulthood. Under no circumstances will that ever change nor will anyone’s opinion change the way that we run the shop. If you feel so passionate about it, get off your ass and create your own and see how long until you buckle under the pressure to either walk away from it or to try to make it successful. 23 years of service is a major success story from some young adults who were living in apartments and trailer parks to what you see today.
Our success is measured in the length of time that we have served our communities and the length of time that we have been on air. We have survived through some of the worst of times and some of the worst eras in modern history and we will continue to thrive and deliver our promise to you that the only thing that changes is the date and the weather.
The last statement I want to make is that we have had to grow an adapt over over the years. A lot of fans have grown with us over the decades that we have been around. The fact is is that if you do not evolve your business, your business will die. It will fail. We have had to make a lot of changes over the years in order to keep the doors open and on air. Because of the origins of our station, a lot of folks misunderstood what HatchetRadio was.
We were never about being under one banner, but being under many banners for many different artists who were never given the opportunity for promotion. We were under the same banner to allow content creators to be more free than network figure heads. We always maintained that even when we were live on air. We do not have an underwriter. We don’t have the backing of a major network or even a minor network. We are our own network always have been and always will be. We are syndicated through other networks who support us as we support them.
This is what has allowed us to creative freedom we have today and that we had yesterday and what has allowed us to evolve from having cheap Logitech or RadioShack equipment to having equipment that is more professional. From evolving to doing shows on dial up to being able to do shows that have streaming video and live correspondence in chats. We will continue to develop our ourselves and our craft as long as our content creators are willing to provide us with quality shows.
We are the evolution of Revolution and what you see today is still the same people who had a twinkle in their eye yesterday and a blueprint for tomorrow. If we haven’t lived up to your expectations, I’m not apologizing for that. We only lived up to our expectations and grew on our own dime and our own time. If you can’t understand that that is not our problem. We are a team who supports each other, and we will continue to do so in the future. That is a promise that I can tell you.
So to wrap this up. We are not going anywhere and we are not changing, nor are we trying to reinvent the wheel. We are just here for entertainment and because we have a passion for what we do. Thank you.”
