Imagine walking into a doctor’s office, saying, “My knee hurts,” and hearing:

“Great. Let’s schedule surgery.”

😳 You’d probably want them to ask a few questions first.

So why do we approach marketing differently?

“We need a new website.”
“You need SEO.”

“We need more leads.”
“You should run ads.”

“We need better marketing.”
“You should post more.”

Maybe. But you can’t prescribe BEFORE you diagnose.

Before deciding what marketing tactics a business needs, we believe you have to understand the business, the customer, the goals, what’s already working—and what’s actually getting in the way.

Sometimes the answer is to do more.

Sometimes it’s to do something differently.

And sometimes, the best strategy is to stop doing something altogether.

Our latest blog explains why every marketing plan should start with discovery—and how asking better questions can keep businesses from spending time and money solving the wrong problem.

Creativity looks a lot like this. 📸

Last month, Mackenzie headed out for a team photoshoot with our friends at Quality Restoration & Renovation.

But the work didn't start when she picked up the camera.

Before the shoot, she spent time researching team photos—different setups, lineups, poses, and angles—so she could walk in with ideas instead of figuring everything out on the fly.

And then came the fun part: taking that preparation and making it work with the actual people, space, lighting, and moment in front of her.

That's one of the things we love about Mackenzie. She's creative, but she's also intentional about her creativity.

Because great creative work isn't always a lightning-bolt moment of inspiration.

Sometimes it's doing your homework, coming prepared, and then knowing when to try something different.

We can't wait to show you what she captured! 📸

Before you spend another dollar on marketing, answer this question:

👉 Who are you actually trying to help?

And “women ages 35–55” doesn’t count. 😉

Knowing your audience is about more than demographics.

Who are they?
What are they trying to accomplish?
What problem is getting in their way?
What are they worried about?
What matters to them when they're choosing someone to help?

Because when you understand the person on the other side of your marketing, everything gets easier.

You know what to say.
You know what matters.
You know what problems to talk about.
You know how to show them you can help.

Before you worry about the algorithm, the ad budget, the posting schedule, or the latest marketing trend…

Start with the human.

Good marketing isn't about getting your message in front of as many people as possible.

It's about making the right person feel like you're talking directly to them.

That's where connection starts. ❤️

SEO is changing. AI is changing search. And yes… it can feel like there’s a new “trick” to learn every week. 😵‍💫

But here’s what we believe:

👉 Don’t optimize for AI. Optimize for understanding.

Be clear about what you do.
Answer the questions your customers are actually asking.
Share your real experience.
Build credibility.
Make it easy for people—and search engines—to understand why they should trust you.

Because whether someone finds you through Google, an AI-generated answer, or a recommendation from a friend, the goal is still the same:

Help the right people find you, understand you, trust you, and take the next step.

We unpack what SEO looks like in the age of AI—and why trust matters more than tricks—in our latest blog. 👇

This post isn’t about marketing. ❤️

It’s not about websites, social media, strategy, or growing a business.

It’s about something much bigger.

This past weekend, we had the incredible privilege of being part of a Baptism & Worship Night at WFRN—and we watched more than 20 people publicly declare their faith through baptism.

Twenty-plus stories.
Twenty-plus lives.
Twenty-plus people saying, “Jesus, I’m Yours.”

It’s truly humbling to get to be part of something like this.

At StoryArk, we spend a lot of our days helping businesses tell their stories. But weekends like this remind us that some stories are so much bigger than anything we could ever create or tell.

We’re just grateful we got a front-row seat to what God is doing in our community. ❤️

And that’s worth sharing—even on a marketing agency’s page.

If your marketing doesn't make sense, it won't make cents. 💰

See what we did there? 😏

When marketing isn't producing results, our first instinct is often to add MORE.

More social media.
More ads.
More emails.
More content.
More money.

But more marketing isn't always the answer.

Sometimes you need to stop and ask:

Does our message make sense?
Are we reaching the right people?
Do they understand why they should choose us?
Are all of our marketing efforts actually working together?
Do we even know what we're trying to accomplish?

Because you can spend a whole lot of cents on marketing that doesn't make sense.

Strategy before tactics. Every time.

Need help making sense/cents of your marketing? Send us a message, we'd love to help!

I had a great conversation this past week about platforms.

Looking out from the stage at the Gathering Place, it’s easy to think of a platform as something like this—a microphone, a stage, and rows of people listening.

But most of our platforms don’t look like this.

Your platform might be your workplace.
Your family.
Your church.
Your neighborhood.
Your social media feed.
The people who sit across the table from you every day.

We may not all get the opportunity to stand on a stage, but we all have a place where our voice carries.

The question is: What are we doing with it?

Are we encouraging? Adding value? Building people up? Sharing something worth hearing? Creating connection?

You don’t need a microphone or a room full of chairs to make an impact.

You already have a platform. Use it well. ❤️

Your website shouldn’t feel like a brochure.

It should feel like a **great conversation.** 💬

Think about the best conversations you’ve had with a business. They didn’t start by telling you everything about themselves. They listened. They understood what you needed. They answered your questions. And they helped you figure out what to do next.

Your website should do the same thing.

If visitors have to dig through paragraphs of “we” statements, hunt for answers, or figure out on their own whether you can help them… they probably won’t stick around.

A great website says:

👋 We see you.
💡 We understand what you’re looking for.
🤝 Here’s how we can help.
➡️ Here’s what to do next.

Because the goal isn’t just to give people information.

It’s to create a connection.

I’ve been thinking a LOT about this lately:

What if, before spending another dollar on marketing, you could figure out WHY your current marketing is—or isn’t—working?

Not another website just because someone says you need a website.

Not more social media because you’re “supposed to post.”

Not SEO, ads, radio, email, or whatever the newest marketing tactic happens to be.

Instead, you start with strategy.

You look at your business, your customers, your message, your current marketing and your goals—and figure out:

👉 What’s working?
👉 What isn’t?
👉 Where are the gaps?
👉 And what should you actually do next?

That’s something we’ve been building behind the scenes at StoryArk.

We’re calling it the Growth Blueprint.

And before we officially launch it, I’d love some feedback from business owners:

Would having something like this make you feel more confident about where you’re investing your marketing dollars?

Yes? No? Maybe?

Tell me why in the comments. Thank you!
