My finish it fall is over. I didn’t finish anything of substance, just a hat, socks, and this dog sweater, which might be too short for Annabel, and may need some ripping out and re-knitting. I confess that I cast on early for my birthday. I purchased a kit from , because I was obsessed. This is Awilda by Caitlin Hunter. Already I’ve modified the design to pick up the neck stitches for more structure.

I designed and knit this sweater maybe twenty years ago, and it’s been worn by three dogs. It’s the Yoda sweater from my book, a modular knit. Annabel mostly wears it indoors at HQ. The fold over turtleneck stays on better than some of her mock neck sweaters. I found some holes and wear! I dipped into my stashed Noro Kureyon to find some colors that would blend with the colors in the sweater. I took out the damaged bit, re knit the diamond, then grafted the right side to live stitches on the diamond above. After I knit a new leg band, I went for a total refresh of all the bands. So satisfying to repair a sweater that has so much memory and history infused into every stitch.

10 days left for my finish it fall, and I’m not close to finishing a sweater. I did finish this pair of socks, though. I used Briggs and Little Tuffy and reinforcing yarn for the heels and toes. Intentional fraternal stripes because that’s how I roll.

So, my finish it fall is going slowly. I finished a Turnagain cowl (I still haven’t found my other two), but progress on 6+ sweaters, not so much. Maybe I can finish some socks before my season ends on 12/20. Approximately for the season of snow and bitter cold, I think about my feet, hands, head, chest and shins. I cast on these chunky socks last spring, maybe I can finish this weekend! The yarn is Briggs and Little Tuffy, purchased during my tariff panic.

I emptied the contents of the top of my antique carriage seat, looking for two Turnagain cowls that I laundered over the summer, and now I can’t find. The tiny house we occupy doesn’t have a closet in the entryway. The seat has become a depository for hats, mitts, neckwear, sweaters, and lots of dog sweaters. This new and tidy pile is Annabel’s alpaca lined sweaters. There are fourteen. Two more are in progress. Clearly I’ve been obsessed.

Here at Lucky Penny HQ, it’s just me and the Man, and we make our own rules. Pie first. It’s delicious, I must say. I used a different recipe for the crust, half butter and half shortening, it was flaky and not soggy on the bottom. I cooked the filling on the stove a few days before I assembled the pie, and I think that helped the crust to not be mushy.

It’s not Thanksgiving without me cooking some janky looking pie. Cherries purchased in Michicot, WI at the conclusion of the Door County excursion I took last summer. I used a new crust recipe, and didn’t have quite enough to do a proper lattice. I would love to take some kind of class where I really learn baking.
I think it will taste good, though.

Hello Sagittarius season. The time of year when I treat myself extra. A little addition to my Steiff dog collection. A Pekingese of course, unique to what I have. Photo 3 is another Madeleine doppelgänger that I picked up this past summer, complete with tags. That makes four doppelgängers, and I think I have to be done, even though I still see them popping up on eBay. I’m a sucker for anything Madeline adjacent.

More finish it fall. I completed a capsule wardrobe for Annabel with .daily.knitting Atlas yarn. All my pattern, Madeline Basic 4.5. Three are modified to have fold over turtlenecks and alpaca linings. The other two are without modifications. The color blocked one makes me think of Eric Cartman’s hat. I knit most of these over the summer when it was just too hot to think of anything else. The Fresh Cut Grass turtleneck was just finished last week. It will be her Grinchy holiday sweater with the addition of a red cowl.

My finish it fall continues. The Flagship Vest designed by Stephanie Earp. I knit it using Espace Tricot’s house yarn, Jolly DK. This was fun to knit, and whet my appetite for finishing another stranded colorwork vest that I’ve had in the works. It’s the first finished garment for me that was steeked. I have done some steeked dog sweaters! The vest was cast on this past spring, I think.

My favorite winter accessory, version three. The Turnagain cowl by . I knit it in Two Rivers adjacent yarns, Brooklyn Tweed Loft and Tones Light. I will have four layers of wool protecting my chest! For the next few weeks I will be slogging through finishing projects. I got the idea from a podcast I subscribe to, . My end date, when I reward myself with a fresh cast on, is December 20, my birthday.

Taking a walk focusing on all the smells of the neighborhood. Annabel is wearing my own design, knit in 1999 stripes in Brooklyn Tweed Tones, sadly, no longer available. This yarn was spun in my other home town, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. I knit an alpaca lining in the sweater with yarn purchased from an alpaca farm in Two Rivers. The pattern is Madeline Basic 4.5, available for purchase on Ravelry. Modified for a fold over turtleneck, ribbed leg cuffs, and the aforementioned lining.
