I spent so much of myself trying to love people the way I wished they would love me.
When they needed someone to lean on, I was there. When they needed comfort, I was there. When they felt alone, I was there. I fought for people who let me fight alone.
In return, I was met with betrayal, lies, manipulation, and the painful realization that not everyone values a heart that never gives up.
For a long time, I thought loving harder would make people stay. It doesn't.
So now, I'm choosing me.
I'm choosing to pour all the love, patience, forgiveness, and compassion I've given so freely to everyone else back into myself. I'm a lover girl, and it's time I become the person I love the hardest.
Healing isn't selfish. Choosing yourself isn't selfish. It's necessary.
I deserve the kind of love I've spent years giving away. And if no one else is going to give me that, then I'll give it to myself.
