"Dating around 26,000 years ago deep inside France’s Chauvet Cave, archaeologists found a trail that tells a remarkable story, an 8-year-old child and a large dog-like animal walking side by side. Preserved through time, these footprints are the earliest known proof of humans traveling with canines, suggesting our bond with dogs began during the Paleolithic period."

"A woman in 1984 began hearing calm, unfamiliar voices despite having no history of mental illness. The voices gently told her, “Please don’t be afraid, we want to help you. You have a tumour in your brain, and your brain stem is inflamed, ask for a scan.” She told her doctor about the voices, and he ordered a CT scan, which revealed a parafalcine meningioma exactly as described. After successful surgery, the voices spoke one final time: “We are pleased to have helped you, goodbye.” They never returned."

"In June 1943, British civilians defended African American soldiers when U.S. Military Police attempted to enforce segregation in British pubs. The confrontations escalated into riots and gunfire, as locals openly rejected American racial policies. Some pubs even displayed "Black Troops Only" signs in defiance, highlighting the sharp contrast between wartime British attitudes and U.S. military racism."

"In 1974, a four-year chimpanzee civil war broke out within a once unified chimp community, later known as the first Gombe Chimpanzee War. The group split into two factions for yet unknown reasons, and the northern clan systematically tracked, ambushed, and killed members of the southern clan, using coordinated, war-like tactics, patrolling borders and launching surprise attacks with rocks, branches, and sticks. The violence ended in 1978, only when the southern clan was completely annihilated."

"Mansa Musa, the 14th-century West African ruler worth an estimated $400 billion in today's modern currency, visited Cairo with a 60,000-person entourage and gave away so much gold to locals that he crippled the economy. He flooded the market with so much gold that its value plummeted for over a decade, causing severe inflation."

"Male nursery web spiders have evolved a clever, downright sneaky mating strategy. Instead of offering real prey as a nuptial gift, some males wrap worthless items, like empty insect shells or bits of plants, in a web, disguising them as valuable meals or gifts. While the female handles the web-wrapped "gift," the male seizes the chance to mate, only for her to later discover there was nothing nutritious inside at all."

"In ancient Rome, the people didn't riot, they walked away from the city to a new city. The plebeians staged mass walkouts called the Secessions of the Plebs, abandoning Rome and taking their labor, their soldiers, and their support with them. The city collapsed without them. The elites gave in. And for one of the first times in history, collective nonviolent resistance won real power."

"In ancient Ireland and Scotland, up until the 17th century, lovers could enter a sacred trial marriage called handfasting. Their hands were bound with woven cords, and their lives entwined for "a year and a day." This probationary period allowed couples to live together and test compatibility and fertility. After that time, they could separate freely or choose to marry permanently. Over 90% of these trial marriages eventually became permanent."
