I spend most of my day-to-day life as the only deaf person in the room. It’s something many people experience too, and it can feel incredibly isolating and exhausting.
That’s why there’s nothing I love more than being surrounded by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and I’m so grateful for the connections that AG Bell Association for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing has brought into my life over the years.
I had the opportunity to attend the Young Leaders Network | deaf/HOH LSL Community retreat in Estes Park, Colorado as a social media content creator - conducting interviews, filming b-roll, producing live event coverage, and most importantly, helping share with the world what it’s like to be part of a community of people who just get it.
One of the highlights was talking with adults with hearing loss who are well into their careers. Hearing their experiences, advice, and honest perspectives on navigating the workplace was invaluable.
The biggest takeaway? Hearing loss is part of who you are, but it doesn’t have to define who you become. You get to define what it means for your life.
