Just your average day in paradise, Estes Park, Colorado.🦌

This bull made sure he was lookin good with his antler adornment during the rut! Bulls will rake their antlers on the ground and aim to get some brush dangling off to show their dominance and make their antlers look bigger!🦌

The elk rut, or the mating season, is the best time of year to have some incredible wildlife encounters. Just remember to keep your distance!🦌🏔️

We had such a busy rutting season touring our Explorers through the National Park, we’re just now getting a chance to review all of the amazing footage we captured! We’ll be sharing our clips from the 2025 elk rut season from this September & October.

Some of these bulls have migrated east for the winter, some have had their antlers broken throughout the rut, and unfortunately, some have died, not from the fight, but from vehicles collisions.

This is one of our favorite bulls to watch, Atlas, or Split 5.🦌👑

During the peak of the elk rut, or the mating season, we captured this great example of the preorbital gland on this bull. This gland is a hole right near the eye which excretes pheromones to attract mates.🦌

We love watching all wildlife animals, big and small. This magpie was making some interesting noises!🐦‍⬛

We’ve been hearing some bugling these last few days as the bulls get their last rutting in for the elk mating season. The elk are slowly migrating to lower elevations as the winter approaches.🦌

🚨 Rocky Mountain National Park remains open to visitors during the government shutdown, but with limited services, it’s on us to be extra responsible.

Here’s what to expect:
• Roads & trails open
• Visitor centers closed
• No trash pickup, restroom cleaning, or passes sold
• No new updates on conditions
• Limited emergency services if something happens

This means you need to plan ahead, pack out all trash (bonus if you pack out more than you brought in), use bathrooms before you go, download maps, and give wildlife space, especially elk space during their rut season.

Please continue to recreate more responsibly to keep our park protected while our Rangers & staff are furloughed.

Something we don’t see very often, a moose made his way to the alpine tundra off of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park!🏔️🫎

Just to give you an idea of how far we are from the wildlife at times! Always keep your distance and give wildlife their space, zoom lenses work great to get up close and personal while keeping everyone (animals included) safe!🦌🏔
