Washington Post: "Progressive" Democrats Fall for Wall Street’s “Abundance” Scam — Evanston Should Take Note!
The Washington Post just revealed the woke left’s newest housing plan—and it reads like a love letter to the fraudulent Abundance movement, the same developer-driven ideology our own Mayor has been pushing for years.
And just like the Beltway's 'Abundance' agenda, Evanston has already taken federal dollars to push this agenda—Biden's $7 million PRO Housing grant that rewards cities for dismantling local zoning and turbocharging developer-driven density.
Let’s be clear:
“Abundance” is just deregulation dressed up as compassion — and it hands even MORE power to private-equity landlords.
Sound familiar?
It should. Because here in Evanston, Daniel Biss, Krissie Harris, Shawn Iles, Jonathan Nieuwsma, Bobby Burns, and Juan Geracaris have been marching in lockstep with this agenda:
Gut zoning in the name of “supply.”
Empower developers to build whatever they want.
Treat homes as investment products, not places where families build stability and wealth.
Make it easier for Wall Street to sn**ch up properties while residents lose ownership opportunities.
The national Democratic plan is exactly the same playbook: push more units, weaken local control, call it “affordable housing,” and pretend it won’t turbo-charge housing commodification.
Evanstonians know better.
We’ve watched this majority try to rewrite our zoning code to favor investors over neighborhoods, towers over homes, and hedge-fund landlords over everyday residents.
Housing justice isn’t letting Wall Street run wild. Housing justice is protecting communities, preserving ownership, and keeping our city livable.
Don’t let the national Trump firestorm and spin distract from what’s happening right here. Evanston has become a testing ground for radical experiments—and it’s time for residents to fight back!
The Center for American Progress, a leading liberal think tank, wants the next Democratic president to boost new home construction and punish localities that don’t reform zoning codes.
