Tip of the Day: Fallout 76 – The Importance of Builds
Feel like you’re burning through ammo on basic enemies? It’s probably your build not your aim.
Your build is the foundation of your entire playstyle. If it’s not optimized, you’ll waste ammo, struggle in certain encounters, and feel weaker than you should. Here are the key things to consider when dialing in your character:
🔧 1. What type of build are you running — and for what situation?
Different activities demand different setups.
For example, I use multiple builds for raids because no two encounters play the same. Think about what weapon you want to run, what damage type you’re focusing on, and whether you need extra armor for survivability.
🎴 2. What perks are you running?
Perks define your character. They’ve changed a lot over time, especially damage perks, so make sure you’re matching your perk cards to the weapon type and armor you’re using.
Don’t be afraid to swap cards around. There’s no one-size-fits-all setup — experiment until you find what feels right.
🍲 3. What buffs are you using?
Buffs aren’t required, but they’re extremely valuable.
Chems, food, lunchboxes, and gum can all boost performance in different ways.
Example:
If you rely on VATS criticals in raids, cook some Blight Soup for a temporary +50% Critical Damage boost. Bring what you need, but don’t overburden yourself.
⭐ 4. What legendary mods are on your gear?
Legendary effects can make or break a build.
• For weapons, focus on effects that increase DPS.
• For armor, prioritize damage resistance, defense, or survival-enhancing effects.
Having multiple armor sets with different legendary rolls lets you adapt to any situation.
🧬 5. What mutations are you running?
With Starched Genes, mutations become permanent tools for shaping your build.
Some universally good picks:
• Marsupial – Increased jump height
• Carnivore / Herbivore – Doubles the effects of food buffs
Choose the mutations that fit your goals and enhance your style.
💡 Final Thoughts
Your build determines your efficiency, power, survivability, and ammo usage. No matter how you play, keep these points in mind when creating and refining your characters. Small changes can make a massive difference.
