In a 2001 interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine shortly before his death, Kenny revealed that he was bisexual. He had contracted AIDS from a male partner who was infected but lived in good condition. Kenny admitted that he knew he had the disease for a long time but neglected treatment. One day, he sprained his ankle and noticed a swollen bruise under his foot — AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma — and did not go to the hospital. He left fans with the following advice: “Keep protecting yourself with condoms and don’t have unprotected sex.” Before venturing into the music industry with Intro, he spent 3 years in the army. He is buried at Calverton National Cemetery in New York.
