Gorgeous day of sailing, but windier than expected. 🌬️⛵⚓

We headed out to try out the new mainsail today. It was supposed to be 5-8 knots out of the northwest. But once we were out there, it was actually 12 knots gusting 20 knots. We elected to put two reefs in the main just to be conservative. Still made for a great day of sailing and we were consistently seeing 6.2 knots even with reduced sail

Every time we go out, we make progress and we push ourselves a little more. We still have so much to learn, but we're making progress. And having a ton of fun along the way.

Our latest post is up. Alki has new standing rigging, running rigging, and a brand new mainsail! We're excited for the 2026 sailing season!

They say a boat is a hole in the water you pour money into, but after our latest adventure, we prefer to think of it as a part of the family that you invest time and money into and it gives you freedom and fond memories in return.

There is beauty all around us... 🌬️⛵⚓

In 2026, we're taking more time to stop and appreciate the world we live in. Far too often we find ourselves rushing from one place to another bound by schedules and deadlines. This year is about relaxing and taking more time to enjoy life and be present in the world around us.

Most of all, it's a year of trying to practice kindness to ourselves and give ourselves space to make mistakes, learn, and grow both on and off the water.

This shot is our marina. Normally, we just blast out of there after sailing to get home or make dinner or something. This time was different. A stop to appreciate the view. This is how it starts. 💌

Nothing quite like waking up New Year's Day onboard Alki. 🌬️⛵⚓

We decided to ring in 2026 by having a cozy evening in while watching movies and having a little wine at midnight. The girls did great on their first overnight aboard Alki. They are taking to sea life quickly.

Wishing all of you a Happy New Year. It feels like the start of a great year!!!

The chaos of doing boat maintenance is all part of sailing life. 🌬️⛵⚓

Spent yesterday afternoon cleaning the raw water strainer and inspecting the impeller and heat exchanger anode. First time diving into this, so we took it slow to do it right.

We also looked through our spares inventory and made some notes on things we need to pick up.

Check the last two pictures for our new sail, which has made it onboard! We'll hang it after the standing rigging is complete in a week or two.

A couple weekends back, we took down the old mainsail and harvested the luff hardware to send to for installation on the new main.

We're super excited to get our new mainsail and get our standing rigging done in January. Alki will be a whole new boat in 2026!

A couple of weeks back, we took the girls down to the boat to hang out while we did some work. They did really well this time and enjoyed just lounging in the salon. Hoping to get them out actually sailing soon, but one step at a time.
