Tim’s latest article is out today and explores new and creative ways to think about defensible space.

For the last few months, we’ve been focusing much of our time and energy on educating our community and neighbors about practical, intelligent defensible space solutions. This extremely dry and mild winter has us worried about an especially bad wildfire season and we want to help the foothills community prepare for this reality in any way we can. Please take a few minutes to read our suggestions and learn what you can do to be a good homeowner and good neighbor.

Thank you, as always to Foothills Living - Best Version Media and Evergreen Living - Best Version Media for the opportunity to publish these articles.

🩷 Happy February from Foothills Living. 🩷

In this issue, we’re proud to feature the Villalobos family of Genesee Crossing, whose dedication to sports, service and supporting others reflects the heart of foothills living. Their story highlights the teamwork, generosity and resilience that make our mountain communities so special.

Our February sports feature spotlights local skier Conor Keating, a familiar face on Colorado slopes whose love for the mountains has spanned decades. His story is a celebration of lifelong passion, friendship and staying active through every season of life.

You’ll also find a thoughtful business profile on Amelia Wullenschneider of Basil Financial Group, who shares approachable insights on finances and money management, helping individuals and families build clarity and confidence for the future.

We’re excited to welcome Ashley McBride of Spirit Bear Realty as a sponsor this month and to introduce Carole Callaghan of Carole Callaghan Law as our newest expert contributor. In this issue, Carole offers valuable guidance on estate planning for teens — an important topic for many foothills families.

Let's hear it for our own Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice. They just won this "Best Caregiver" award! Congratulations and well deserved! Here's more information:

Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice has been recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) as a “Premier Performer” for achieving an overall caregiver and family experience score that ranked in the top 5% of all eligible SHP clients for the 2024 calendar year.

The annual SHPBest™ award program was created to acknowledge hospice providers that consistently provide high quality service to families and caregivers of patients receiving hospice care. The 2024 award recipients were determined by reviewing and ranking the overall CAHPS Hospice caregiver experience score for more than 1,800 hospice providers. With one of the largest CAHPS Hospice benchmarks in the nation, SHP is in a unique position to identify and recognize organizations that have made the family and caregiver experience a priority and have been rewarded for their efforts with high marks on the CAHPS Hospice survey.

“SHP recognizes how much hard work is involved in providing excellent patient care, and we are proud to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our top-performing customers through our annual SHPBest award program. These organizations care deeply about the patient experience and they never stop striving to improve every single year”, said Kevin Vogel, President of SHP.

“To put in context how significant being in the top 5% is, we are 1 of about 90 hospices nationwide to receive this award (that’s less than two per state on average.) That’s absolutely incredible! The care our team gives is extraordinary, and while we don’t do what we do for the awards or accolades, they truly illustrate the quality and hard work that goes on both in direct patient care and behind the scenes Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice,” said Ashland Evans, President & Chief Executive Officer for Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice.

“Our hospice team absolutely has earned this recognition. They are always going above and beyond for our patients and their families and caregivers. Hospice care is not just a job for them, it’s a calling. This award is not something we apply for, it is awarded based solely on the quality scores we receive from the families and caregivers of those we’ve been honored to care for. This award is a testament to our quality and the dedication of our team to provide the very best care,” said Jamie Wilson, Director, Hospice for Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice.
