Calling all you jazz lovers and jazz educators, the 2021 JEN Conference is virtual. It's gonna be awesome. Happening next week. I attended a conference in Atlanta several years ago. It was awesome!!
Parents, I’m sure you’ve seen how your local school district has systematically cut arts funding and downsized or eliminated band and orchestra and art classes, especially in elementary school. Right? These program cuts come right at a critical time when our children’s creative minds are really developing! As a parent and a community musician who has played music since being introduced to the band in public school in the fourth grade, I know first-hand the value of arts education and life-long music participation....

To all my music educators and music friends, here are some tips to keep healthy!
As musicians, a lot of focus and practice goes into our musical aptitude. But what about our health? Here are 10 fitness exercises for musicians you need.
Did YOU know that October is National Arts & Humanities Month? Probably not! The arts and arts education have been eliminated or relegated to the back of the curriculum in most public schools.
However, modern research is now confirming what the "Ancients" have always known.
The Arts are an integral of our Spirit. So, in honor of National Arts & Humanites Month, I am sharing this ORIGINAL Poetic Essay on the meaning of The Arts. Please let me know what you think.
The Arts – A 21st Century Definition – In the Beginning was The Word.
The Arts are the highest of the Sciences and are present in all of the Sciences.
The Power of Creativity is ignited by the Divine Mind, which is the source of All Creation.
There can be no innovation, no inventions and no creation without FIRST having
Inspiration, which is Divine Communication.
Thus, the Arts – Ideas, Imagination & Intention PRECEDES ALL things!!
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.
Thus, the arts as they have become commonly known in the recent era of man to be viewed as something
Aesthetically Beautiful ... Spiritually Enriching ... Innovatively Functional.
And most commonly accepted as Entertainment for our own pleasure and enjoyment.
The Arts have been maligned, mis defined and thus relegated to something that “Creative People do” or as simply something to please and entertain YOU.
When in fact, Being an Artist or a creator of something IS the highest form of Divine expression/science there is!!
In the beginning was the word …
And the word began to resonate & then began to vibrate and then began to create and then began to elevate into the intended creation.
Each creation having its own form and function.
Its own color and timbre. ... Its own vibration and frequency.
Its own temperament and texture... Its own Unique Life Force.
In the beginning was The Word and the Word was God.
The Greatest, most Creative, Most Prolific Artist of the Universe.
As we are made in the image and Likeness of God …
We are all Divine Artists – Co-creators of our live and thus Spiritual Innovators of all that we create!!
Divine Inspiration Precedes ALL physical creation and is the creative source behind all inventions and innovations and intentions!!
This is the highest & purest meaning of Art … the Highest Science, whose process precedes all other sciences and whose process IS all of the Sciences!!!!

Music in our Schools Month Update: Kudos to the Theater Director and students at Langston Hughes High School for their production of Shrek, The Musical. A cast of some 20 students and a small core of musicians staged a comical, enjoyable production last weekend!! The leading characters were particularly animated. Congrats to the students who played Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and the King. My only disappointment? There were only about 75 folks in the audience. These students put in a lot of hard work and seemingly had fun presenting the play. Their public speaking skills and self confidence will be forever enhanced!! Congrats to Langston Hughes HS. You have made your namesake Langston Hughes smile in heaven! Keep up the great work. Great things ARE happening in S. Fulton!
March is Music in our Schools Month. And, as such, there will be some fantastic concerts and spring musicals being presented at your local high school. My favorite friends over at Tri-Citeis HS always have a musical theater treat. Check out www.fultonschools.org to see what's being presented at your favorite neighborhood school. Enjoy. And remember, music making isn't just for students, the benefits of playing a musical instrument are lifelong. I know of several music teachers and community musical ensembles and camps for adults!! Let me know if you are interested !!
