We recently adopted this sweet little kitten from a local animal shelter. The shelter staff told us that she had been found in a dumpster, in heartbreaking condition. She had clearly been through so much and was carrying a lot of fear and trauma.

The moment my husband and I saw her, we both fell in love with her. Even though she was terrified of people, we knew we wanted to give her a chance. Every time we came near her, she would hide and hiss, as if she thought we were going to hurt her. It broke our hearts to see how scared she was.

Four days later, we started to see a small but beautiful change. She slowly began to trust us. She still hides sometimes and occasionally hisses, but that’s okay—we know healing takes time. The fear in her eyes has started to fade, and seeing that gives us so much hope.

Our whole family already loves her so much. My husband and I adopted her as a surprise birthday gift for our daughter, who just turned 13. At the shelter, her name was Cubarsi, but we decided to rename her Dusty because of her beautiful gray coat that reminds us of soft dust.

We know her journey to healing won’t happen overnight, but we promise to be patient and give her all the love, safety, and care she deserves. We hope that one day she’ll truly understand that she’s finally home, and that she will never have to be afraid again. ❤️🐾
