How bad was the First Generation 3.5 EcoBoost?

You could find the Gen 1 3.5 EcoBoost in 2011-2016 F-150’s & 2015-2017 Expeditions. While this engine had really good power and great fuel economy it did have its fair share of problems. This always seems to be the case with the first generation of anything, for example the early 6.0L PowerStroke engines. The gen 1 EcoBoost was notorious for broken exhaust manifold studs, leaking turbo fittings, timing chain issues, leaking valve covers, and many others. It’s very common that I see a 100k+ mile F150 come in that has several if not all of these issues. That’s why in most cases we just remove the cab and do it all at ONE TIME!
