LML Duramax Owners…

How many of you have experienced head gasket failure?

We are starting to get more and more Duramax work. Head gasket failures on the 2011-2016 LML engines seem to be fairly common.

In case you missed the fundraiser from this mornings live show. We are trying to raise funds to help a good friend and previous co-worker, Logan Woolston, with his daughter’s health battles.

Meet Olive! At only 1 1/2 years old, Olive was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder: ALG1-CDG. This disorder causes uncontrollable seizures. She is drug-resistant and recently had an implant put in her vagus nerve. Even with the implant, she has had up to 200 seizures in a day. She is currently receiving medical treatment away from home.

When Olive is released from the hospital, she will be sent home with various medical equipment and an at-home nurse. She will ultimately be on a form of hospice.

Why We're Raising Funds:
As you can imagine, no family is prepared for such medical expenses. No child or family should have to experience what this family has in such a short period of time. We are aiming to raise funds to help alleviate some of the financial stress associated with Olive's medical procedures and help the Woolston's focus on their little girl-- not their bills. All donations will go directly towards helping this sweet little girl and her family!

The CP4 high pressure fuel pump single-handedly keeps the lights on for a lot of shops.

A lot of the issues with the CP4 pump comes from poor fuel quality.

Fuel treatments seem to help the CP4 last, but a Disaster Prevention Kit or a DCR Conversion Kit would be a must, if you want to completely protect yourself from the CP4 and all of the problems that come with it.

The Gen 2 Coyote (2015-2017) is certainly one of the best V8 engines of the past 10-15 years. We have, however, started to see more issues with mileage and age, such as the broken secondary timing chain guide on this engine in particular.

What are your thoughts on the Coyote compared to the newer GM LT engines and Ram’s Hemi?

What is your favorite code to see when a vehicle shows up, as a mechanic?

P0087 on a 6.7L Powerstroke usually indicates a hurt pocketbook for the customer and a lot of labor for the mechanic! This code is one of the most common you see with a weak CP4 pump, (if the truck is running), or a complete fuel system failure (when the truck is not running). There are numerous other things that could cause a P0087, but it is definitely a quick indicator that a fuel system issue persists.

6R140 Transmissions

The overdrive clutch pack in the 6R140 has proven to be the most problematic. This clutch set has the smallest clutches in the entire transmission.

We have seen everything from cracked and bent molded overdrive pistons, to just shear power from tuned trucks causing burnt clutches.

On every 6R140 rebuild, we install a set of RevMax billet overdrive pistons, to ensure there is no chance of breaking or flexing the flimsy overdrive pistons. These billet pistons also allow us to stack in 9 clutches, which is 2 more than the stock amount.

This, along with other modifications, really help make these 6R140 transmissions much more capable!

How many miles are on your Powerstroke?

The 6.7L Powerstroke is known for many things, good and bad. Oil leaks plague the 6.7L, most notably the upper oil pan. Front cover leaks are not as common, but we are beginning to see them more often as these trucks get older. The 2011-2019 models have a rubber, press-in gasket that will lose flexibility and develop leaks.
