Good Morning Everyone!

Hot and mostly dry weather remains the main story across North Alabama through the end of the workweek. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and possibly to the lower 90s today through Friday, with heat index values reaching the mid 90s to near 100°. If you have outdoor plans, stay hydrated, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

While most locations will remain dry, an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out this afternoon, especially across portions of northeast Alabama. Any storm that develops could produce gusty winds, torrential rainfall, and localized flooding.

Over the weekend, a cold front should move through the area that is expected to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms. There may be a few additional rounds of rain possible early next week as well.

The biggest concern will be heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Moisture levels are forecast to be unusually high for June, and some storms could produce very efficient rainfall rates as we have seen. Strong thunderstorms are also possible, however confidence remains lower regarding exact timing and storm coverage.

⚠️ Meanwhile, a much more significant severe weather threat exists today across parts of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and surrounding portions of the Midwest. The Storm Prediction Center has placed that region under an Enhanced Risk, with the potential for large hail, damaging winds over 75 mph, and a few tornadoes.

For the us, the primary weather concerns remain heat through Friday, followed by increasing storm chances and a growing flood risk this weekend into early next week.

⚠️ Special Weather Statement ⚠️

A strong thunderstorm is moving through parts of Lauderdale and Colbert Counties this afternoon.

🌩 Impacts: Wind gusts over 30 mph, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, torrential rainfall, and localized flooding possible

📍 Areas impacted include Florence, Cherokee, Lexington, St. Florian, Waterloo, Underwood-Petersville, Green Hill, and surrounding communities.

⏰ The storm is moving northeast at 20 mph and will affect the area through approximately 5:45 PM.

A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee until 8 PM CDT today. Additional excessive rainfall is expected this afternoon, which may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and urban areas.

🚨 FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY 🚨

A Flash Flood Emergency has been issued for parts of northeastern Madison and northwestern Jackson Counties, including New Market, North Huntsville, and Skyline, until 6:00 PM.

Emergency management reports between 5 and 9 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 1 to 3 inches possible. Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are occurring, resulting in multiple road closures, water entering homes, and water rescues.

⚠️ This is a life-threatening situation.

Affected areas include:
New Market, North Huntsville, Meridianville, Hazel Green, Skyline, Gurley, Scottsboro, Alabama A&M University, Brownsboro and surrounding communities

If you are in the warned area:
🔹 Move to higher ground immediately.
🔹 Do not drive through flooded roads.
🔹 Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

This is one of the most serious flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service. If you know anyone in these areas, make sure they are aware of the situation.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD WARNING ISSUED ⚠️

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 2:30 PM for portions of Lauderdale, Colbert, and Limestone Counties, including Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Killen, Rogersville, Lexington, and surrounding communities.

Heavy thunderstorms have already produced 1–3 inches of rainfall, with another 1–2 inches possible this afternoon. Flash flooding is already being reported, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

🚗 If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.

Stay weather aware and use caution if traveling across the Shoals region this afternoon. I will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed

Good morning everyone!

The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted portions of northern and central Alabama for the potential of localized flash flooding through the early afternoon.

A very moisture-rich air mass is in place across the region, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop and move across the area. Some storms may repeatedly move over the same locations, producing rainfall rates of 1-2+ inches per hour.

While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flash flooding could develop in areas that receive multiple rounds of heavy rain. A few locations could see rainfall totals of 3-4+ inches before the activity winds down.

Never drive through water-covered roads, as conditions underneath may be impossible to judge.

I’ll continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
