Six young students once trusted their teacher to guide them, support them, and keep them safe. Instead, authorities later uncovered that the person responsible for their education had repeatedly violated that trust. A primary school teacher in China, identified by the surname Guo, was convicted of sexually assaulting six female students more than 100 times over a period of six years, between 2013 and 2019. Investigators reported that the abuse began when the girls were all under the age of 14.
The case shocked many people because it involved a figure who held authority and responsibility over children. Schools are meant to be safe spaces where students can learn and grow, but this case revealed how devastating it can be when someone in that position abuses their power. Prosecutors described a long pattern of repeated offenses that affected multiple victims, making the crimes particularly serious under Chinese law.
In China’s legal system, any sexual act involving a girl under the age of 14 is automatically classified as r**e, regardless of other circumstances. When such crimes involve repeated assaults, multiple victims, or abuse of authority, the penalties can be extremely severe. After reviewing the case and the evidence presented, the court found Guo guilty of multiple counts of r**e involving minors.
In November 2024, the death sentence was carried out after being reviewed and approved by China’s Supreme People’s Court. In the country’s judicial process, the highest court must confirm death sentences before they are implemented. Officials stated that the decision reflected China’s strict stance against crimes involving children and its commitment to protecting minors.
China’s top court has also emphasized that many child abuse cases involve perpetrators who are in positions of trust, including teachers, family members, and people within a child’s community. Because of this, such crimes are treated with particular seriousness by the legal system. Guo’s ex*****on was one of three that took place on the same day, with authorities saying the punishments were intended to serve as a warning and a deterrent.
