We have great news to share: Valor’s Swallow Study came back NORMAL! 🎉🩵

Yesterday, Valor had a Swallow Study at Thomas Hospital with a Speech Therapist. They added barium to his formula and purées to check via X-ray if food was entering his lungs. Doctors were concerned about aspiration, but the study showed very little, if any, food penetrating his windpipe!

Key Updates & Next Steps:

• Moving to Thinner Liquids: The therapist declared thinner liquids safer for Valor than thicker ones, which can allow more bacteria into the lungs. Though we previously thickened his formula for acid reflux and weight gain, we are now gradually transitioning him to thinner liquids.

• Ongoing Palate Challenges: Because Valor doesn't have a palate, he can't create a suctioned seal. Swallowing remains a challenge, and mouth leakage still leads to lost calories.

• New Therapy: Valor has been referred to a new Speech-Language Pathologist at The SPOT Clinic in Gulf Shores for Feeding & Speech Therapy twice a week.

He is such a bright, happy boy, and we are excited for the progress this next chapter will bring. Thank you all for the love and support surrounding our precious guy!

Happy 8 Months, Boyo! ❤️

Eight months of smiles, strength, and showing the world that being little doesn’t mean you can’t be mighty.

Valor is now 11 lbs. 12 oz. and 24¾ inches long. While he’s still below the 1st percentile, we’re celebrating a huge milestone—he’s gained 3 pounds since his last pediatric appointment! Every ounce has been hard-earned, and we couldn’t be prouder.

We’re still working toward our next big goal: gaining enough weight for his palate surgery. His surgeon is hopeful we’ll be able to schedule it around 13 months old, hopefully around Christmas or the New Year. ❤️

This month has brought some exciting firsts, too! Valor has started eating purées and already has favorites—apples, pears, and sweet potatoes. 🍎🍐🍠

We also have a Swallow Study coming up after his doctor expressed concerns about how he’ll safely handle thin liquids like water and eventually juice because of his reflux. For now, we’re continuing to heavily thicken his formula to help with both his calorie intake and regurgitation.

Through every appointment, every challenge, and every milestone, Valor continues to amaze us. He never lets anything slow him down and remains the happiest, bravest little boy we know. We are so incredibly proud to be your parents.
