The Rotary Club of Folsom lives by Service Above Self, supporting local community and international projects. Join us Thursdays at the Robert H.

Miller III Rotary Clubhouse, 7150 Baldwin Dam Rd, Folsom. Social: 6:30 PM | Meeting: 7–8:30 PM. The Rotary Club of Folsom is one of three Rotary Clubs in the city of Folsom. It is the only club that meets in the evening (Thursday, 6:30 PM). The club has 70-80 active members and has been giving back to the Folsom community since 1953.

What would you risk to find freedom?

This Thursday, we’ll hear a powerful and deeply personal story from Nima Moridi, President of the Folsom Lake Rotary Club and Director of Investment Sales at Capital Rivers Commercial.

Nima will share his family’s story of escaping Iran during the turmoil surrounding the 1979 revolution and the journey that brought them to freedom.

His presentation, “Fight for Freedom,” offers a personal perspective on a pivotal moment in history, and a story of courage, sacrifice, resilience and the pursuit of freedom.

Nima will also share how his family’s experiences continue to shape their lives today, including his mother’s ongoing advocacy work in Washington, D.C.

This is more than a history lesson. It’s a story told from the perspective of someone whose family lived it.

This Week at Rotary: Entrepreneurship, Acts of Service & Giving Back

Join us as we welcome Tiffany Andrews, attorney, entrepreneur, business owner, mother, and passionate advocate for military caregivers.

Tiffany will share her personal journey and speak about entrepreneurship, acts of service, and the importance of giving back.

Her story is deeply connected to that of her son, U.S. Marine Sgt. Tyler J. Vargas Andrews, who was critically wounded in the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan. Tyler lost his right arm and left leg and endured nearly 50 surgeries and years of rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Tiffany became his primary caregiver while continuing to care for her younger children and run her law practice. Through that experience, she has become a strong advocate for military caregivers and families of wounded service members, working to improve financial and other support for those who sacrifice so much to care for their loved ones.

We look forward to an inspiring conversation about resilience, service, entrepreneurship, and the importance of giving back.

🤖 Artificial Intelligence — Now and the Future

AI is changing the way we work, communicate, create, and think about the future. This week, we’re excited to hear from two of our own Rotary Club of Folsom members, Ramesh Dontha and Rob Ross, as they take a look at the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence.

Ramesh Dontha is an entrepreneur, published author, and podcast host. He previously worked at Intel Corporation in Corporate Strategy, Marketing, and Business Development. Today, Ramesh consults with companies on how they can put AI to work and is passionate about the possibilities this technology holds.

Rob Ross has been passionate about computers and technology since he was a teenager. An entrepreneur, Rob started his first technology company at just 15 and is now CEO of ThinkSmart Inc., which hosts cloud-based applications on platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Rob also teaches AI as a guest lecturer at Jessup University and enjoys “vibe coding” in his free time.

Ramesh and Rob will talk about how AI works, practical applications in areas such as content creation and healthcare, and what the future of AI may look like. They’ll also explore some of the questions and concerns surrounding AI’s impact on people, jobs, and society.

Their presentation promises to be informative, engaging, and entertaining as we explore a technology that is already changing our world.

Rotary Youth Exchange Applications Are Open 🌎

Applications are now open for the 2027–2028 Rotary Youth Exchange Long-Term Program through Rotary District 5180.

Know a high school student who would thrive from the opportunity to spend a school year abroad? Rotary Youth Exchange gives students the chance to experience another culture, attend school in another country, live with host families, make lifelong friendships, and develop greater confidence, independence and understanding of the world. ✈️

The program is open to high school students in the Greater Sacramento area.

Welcoming Amélie to Folsom!

We were delighted to welcome Amélie, our 2026–2027 Rotary Youth Exchange student from Switzerland, at our recent Rotary Club of Folsom meeting and give our members the opportunity to meet her.

The Rotary Club of Folsom is proud to sponsor both Amélie and our outbound exchange student, Elise, who recently left Folsom to spend the school year in Brazil. Amélie will experience Folsom while living with three host families, including Elise’s family and two Rotary Club of Folsom member families.

Rotary Youth Exchange is about so much more than spending a year in another country. It creates opportunities for young people to build confidence, independence and leadership skills while developing meaningful relationships across cultures.

Through experiences like these, young people become ambassadors for their communities and countries—and help build greater understanding, connection and peace around the world.

We’re excited to share Amélie’s journey with our club and community throughout the year! 🇨🇭🇺🇸

Rotary connections extend well beyond our own club meetings.

Recently, Rotary Club of Folsom member Chuck Thompson had the opportunity to share his incredible aviation story as the featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Foothill-Highlands.

Chuck’s journey into helicopter aviation began with an early introduction to flying from his Air Force father. What started with fixed-wing aircraft eventually led him to helicopters, where his career included earning multiple flight ratings, flying news coverage for Channels 10 and 13, participating in Department of Justice CAMP missions, and flying wildfire suppression operations throughout the West.

From reaching remote Sierra Nevada communication sites to flying missions that took him across the western United States, Chuck has built a remarkable career in aviation, one filled with unique experiences, challenges, and stories that offer a fascinating glimpse into the world of helicopter flight.

Chuck was joined at the meeting by Rotary Club of Folsom members Samantha Davidson and District 5180 Governor-Nominee Ryan Jantzen. The meeting also brought together Foothill-Highlands Rotary President Miguel Benitez and Assistant Governor for Area 2 Roland Wright, whose home club is Foothill-Highlands.

The opportunity to visit another Rotary club is one of the things that makes being a Rotarian such a rewarding experience. It provides an opportunity to meet new people, hear different speakers, see how other clubs conduct their meetings, exchange ideas, and build relationships throughout the Rotary community.

Chuck’s visit to Foothill-Highlands is a great example of how those connections strengthen Rotary beyond the walls of any one club. We’re proud to see Chuck representing Rotary Club of Folsom and sharing his story with fellow Rotarians, and we encourage our members to take advantage of the many opportunities Rotary offers beyond our own weekly meetings.

Connecting with other clubs, participating in district activities, and experiencing Rotary in different settings all contribute to a richer Rotary experience, and help strengthen the connections that make our organization so impactful.

Honoring Commitment, Generosity, and Lasting Impact

Some contributions to Rotary are measured not only in years, but in the lasting impact they leave behind. At our recent meeting, the Rotary Club of Folsom had the privilege of recognizing two outstanding members with Paul Harris Fellow honors, one of Rotary’s most meaningful recognitions.

A Paul Harris Fellow recognizes significant support of The Rotary Foundation and the humanitarian work it makes possible around the world. Each Paul Harris Fellow level represents $1,000 in cumulative contributions to the Foundation, with additional recognition earned for each additional $1,000.

Congratulations to John Kemp, Paul Harris Fellow +3, in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to Rotary and the Folsom community. A member of the Rotary Club of Folsom for nearly 42 years, John has dedicated decades to service, leadership, and making a difference in the community he calls home. His contributions extend well beyond Rotary, including his involvement with the Folsom Historical Society, Folsom Chamber of Commerce, youth athletics, and numerous community initiatives. His impact on Folsom is perhaps most visibly honored through John Kemp Community Park, which bears his name and continues to serve generations of local families. We are grateful for John’s remarkable legacy of service and his many years of making a lasting impact through Rotary.

We also congratulate Peter Evenhuis, Paul Harris Fellow +1, in recognition of his commitment to Rotary and The Rotary Foundation. A member of the Rotary Club of Folsom for over three years, Peter brings a unique international perspective to Rotary, splitting his time between the United States and South Africa, where he is also involved with Rotary. A retired hospitality professional, Peter continues to bring his experience, generosity, and spirit of service to our club and to the Rotary community wherever he is.

Congratulations to John and Peter on these well-deserved honors. Thank you for your continued dedication, generosity, and commitment to Service Above Self.

This Week at Rotary: Mayor Justin Raithel

We’re pleased to welcome Folsom Mayor Justin Raithel as our speaker this week at the Rotary Club of

Mayor Raithel brings a strong history of service to our community. A small business owner, licensed professional engineer and longtime community volunteer, he has served on several Folsom commissions and was a past president of the Rotary Club of Folsom.

As mayor, Raithel has identified priorities including strengthening neighborhoods, improving city efficiencies and technology, supporting economic development, and being thoughtful stewards of the city’s budget.

In his 2026 State of the City address, Mayor Raithel also discussed Folsom’s financial outlook, public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, transportation, economic development and the city’s long-term direction.

Join us this Thursday for an opportunity to hear directly from Mayor Raithel about the state of our city, the priorities shaping Folsom’s future, and what’s ahead for our community.

This week, the Rotary Club of Folsom is pleased to welcome Folsom Fire Chief Jason Solak as our guest speaker.

Chief Solak brings more than 30 years of fire service and leadership experience to Folsom. Before joining the City of Folsom, he spent 25 years with the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, most recently serving as Deputy Fire Chief overseeing operations, training and emergency response readiness.

His career has also included service with the U.S. Forest Service, Rocklin and Benicia fire departments, as well as FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue Team. A longtime Folsom resident, Chief Solak is now leading the department he has called his community for more than two decades.

We look forward to hearing from Chief Solak about the Folsom Fire Department, public safety, and the priorities ahead for our community.
