Flashback Friday: Kid Edition

“ShaSha! I'm going to fish for Noli!!”

It took me a second to figure out what on earth she meant… until she proudly held up the cat wand toy — the one the kitten chases.

Fishing. For the kitten. Naturally.

The calendar says summer but my heart says fall — even if it’s 110° outside. School is back, sports are buzzing, and I’m officially ready for all the months that end in ber. Pumpkin spice, warm textures, and the kind of cozy that makes your home feel like a hug.

Some days test you. Some days drain you. Some days make you question whether you’re doing any of it right.

But the hard days don’t get to define you — they’re just moments, not verdicts.

Take a breath. Reset. Try again tomorrow. You’re stronger than the day you’re in.

Twenty‑two years ago, I walked down the aisle with big dreams, big hair, and absolutely no idea what I was doing. I thought marriage meant romance, matching towels, and a life that looked suspiciously like a Hallmark movie. Bless my heart.

What I’ve learned since then is that marriage is beautiful, hilarious, sanctifying, messy, holy, and worth every single “Did you really go from talking to snoring in .3 seconds?” moment. So, in honor of 22 years with the man God hand‑picked for me, here are 22 things I’ve learned about love, life, and building a marriage that lasts.

If I could go back and whisper something to that younger version of me — the one who thought love was supposed to look perfect — I’d tell her this: It won’t be perfect, but it will be beautiful. You’ll laugh, you’ll grow, you’ll weather storms, you’ll build memories, and you’ll look back one day amazed at how far the two of you have come.

Here’s to 22 years of choosing each other — and to all the years still ahead.

Flashback Friday: Kid Edition

When my kids were little, I found myself saying the same things over and over… and half of them were sentences I never imagined would come out of my mouth one day.

The daily classics: “Just a minute!” “You don’t NEED another ‘nack.’” “Stop running in the house.” “Did you put your clothes away?” “Where’s Dad?” “Where is my phone?!” "I'll be right back…I'm just going to the bathroom." "I need a peacemaker."

And then there were the unexpected gems — the ones only motherhood can prepare you for: “We don’t draw on the furniture with Chapstick.” “You cannot climb into the kitchen drawer.” “That does NOT go in the garbage.” “Stop getting stuff out of the bathroom cabinet.” “Oh no… we do NOT put our finger in the dog’s nose.”

Looking back, those chaotic little moments were the sweetest ones. The things I said a hundred times a day… I’d give anything to say them again.

Cherish the moments, mom… even the chaotic ones. You truly will "miss this" one day all too soon…
