As you may know, the U.S. music licensing framework—particularly through SoundExchange—is fundamentally broken. It was built for a different era, and today it penalizes streaming radio stations for growing their audiences. It’s a model that scales costs but not revenue, and it’s preventing countless broadcasters from thriving or even surviving. The only practical option in the U.S. is Live365, which has a bundle with SoundExchange, but even their rates have become increasingly unsustainable as a station grows, certainly limiting owners from growing their stations without breaking the bank or even earning a small profit.
In 2025, the U.S. Copyright Royalty Board is reviewing the pricing structure. This is a rare and critical opportunity to push for meaningful reform. We (Thasis Radio Network) are launching a grassroots effort to bring this to the attention of legislators and policymakers—petitions, letters, coordinated outreach—and it starts with getting a large number of station operators and owners behind it. If we're successful, this could open up the U.S. market for thousands more stations to operate sustainably.
Please join us and help. Go to any of the below and read more about the initiative, sign a petition, or email us directly at [email protected].
