TORCH TALES TV Dedicated to the people behind the welding industry

BRAZE? SOLDER? WELD? 🔥

They all use heat. They can all join metal. But they are NOT the same process.

The biggest difference comes down to one simple question:

What’s actually melting?

🔥 Brazing: The filler metal melts, but the base metals stay solid.

🔥 Soldering: Same basic concept, but at a lower temperature — below 840°F / 450°C.

🔥 Welding: The base metals themselves are melted and fused together.

Because just because you’ve got a torch in your hand… doesn’t mean you’re welding.

Single-stage or two-stage regulator… do you REALLY know the difference? 👀

They both reduce cylinder pressure, they both look similar, and they both get the job done—but what’s happening INSIDE is completely different.

What the heck does INERT GAS really mean?

We hear argon, helium, shielding gas, inert gas thrown around in the welding industry all the time—but what are these gases actually doing?

WHAT’S IN YOUR TOOL BELT?

I’m not talking about wrenches and pliers.
I’m talking about the tools that help you grow.
Public speaking. Networking. Seminars.

Mentors. Social media. Learning how to break the ice and getting comfortable putting yourself out there.

Over the years, I’ve learned that opportunities don’t always come with a warning. Sometimes the door opens, and you either have the tools to walk through it… or you don’t.

You don’t have to know everything. Just keep adding tools to the belt.

Because being in the right place at the right time only works if you’re READY when you get there.

🔥 What’s in YOUR tool belt?

Episode #97 drops Saturday 8/8/26

What was it like being an industrial sales rep before GPS, cell phones, CRMs, and Google Maps?

https://youtube.com/Tales Of The Midnight Torch?si=GMSY18jD1U456P9G

In this episode of Torch Tales #97, I sit down with Bill Kingsley from Norris Cylinder Company to talk about nearly four decades in our industry.

From his early days with Harris and Norris to today's technology-driven sales world, Bill shares what selling looked like when everything was done the hard way.

We're talking road atlases instead of GPS, payphones instead of cell phones, pagers instead of text messages, and handwritten sales reports instead of dashboards and CRM systems.

It's a great reminder that while the tools have changed, the fundamentals haven't: build relationships, know your customers, and put in the work.

If you've been in the industry for a while, this episode will bring back some memories. If you're new, you'll get a whole new appreciation for how sales was done before the digital age.

Thanks to everyone at the GAWDA North Central Regional Meeting for the conversations, the laughs, and the opportunity to keep shining a light on the welding and gases industry.

On to the next adventure. 🔥

Walking around ScrapFest, I had the chance to catch up with another incredible artist, Steve Kost (Steve Kost - Metal Health Artwork).

A U.S. veteran and seven-year ScrapFest competitor, Steve shared why this has become his favorite event every year.

We talked about metal art, the community that keeps bringing him back, and how creating with steel has become a meaningful creative outlet.

It's conversations like these that remind me why I love coming to ScrapFest. Every artist has a story.

A huge thank you to Mike Barnett for surprising me with an awesome bocomal FR hoodie and FR long-sleeve work shirt. I truly appreciate the thoughtful gift.

Thank you as well to the team at BOCOMAL FR. I'm looking forward to putting to use.

This wasn't a paid promotion or an endorsement—just a sincere thank you to a friend and a great company for the generosity.
