After 10 years of President Donald Trump dominating the national discourse, one effect is a coarsening of political language.
Democrats are joining the four-letter fray. Does their more frequent use of words once considered off limits — other than behind closed doors or in small groups — demonstrate passion and authenticity?

Florida governor candidate Byron Donalds cites opposition to school safety law that stemmed from Stoneman Douglas massacre as proof of his principles.
He objected to provisions that raised the age to purchase a rifle from 18 to 21 and gave Florida a “red flag” law.
“It’s one thing to make sure the schools are safe. It’s another thing to take away constitutional rights,” he said. “Tragedy is an unfortunate part of what occurs in human life, but people’s rights have to be held consistently over time.”

Congressman Byron Donalds, who is running to succeed Ron DeSantis as governor of Florida, courted South Florida conservatives at Club 47, an organization that supports President Donald Trump.

Scott Singer, the term-limited mayor of Boca Raton, may run for Congress.
Singer said he hasn’t made a decision, despite speculation among some Republicans this week that he was on the verge of entering the race in the Broward-Palm Beach County 23rd Congressional District.
He didn’t foreclose the possibility. “I love public service and haven’t ruled out any opportunities to continue to serve our community."

The answer, Congressman Byron Donalds says, is an unequivocal yes.
Donalds' campaign for governor fueled by his support for, and endorsement from, President Donald Trump.

Fort Lauderdale's Mitchell Berger, who's been involved in many national and statewide campaigns, is chairing Democrat David Jolly's 2026 Florida gubernatorial effort.
“We need to build a coalition of people who are willing to do something a little differently."

Mitchell Berger started work at age 19 for Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign. The Fort Lauderdale lawyer has since held numerous senior campaign and government roles. He’s now campai…

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (Ret.) — whose testimony provided critical evidence in the first impeachment of President Donald Trump — is now living in Broward, working on public policy and politics.
Is a U.S. Senate run coming? "I’m thinking, ‘How do I pitch in?’ — but that doesn’t necessarily mean my own run.”

Alexander Vindman, the now retired Army lieutenant colonel whose testimony was a central feature of the first impeachment of President Donald Trump, has been participating, somewhat quietly, in Dem…

Visiting a restaurant where he signed a bill into law, Gov. Ron DeSantis riffed on many topics, including property taxes, a summertime elimination of the state sales tax on fi****ms and ammunition, which Florida communities still have lots of Democrats, and the New York City mayoral primary.
He also weighed in on the price of the restaurant's grouper sandwich.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried unveils $1 million Pendulum program — "because the pendulum is starting to swing here in the state of Florida” — a year-round effort to base organizers in communities, especially where “voters have felt overlooked.”
“When we show up for every voter in every Zip code in every year, we will win.”

“I know that people call Florida a red state these days. But I’m here as living proof. If a Democrat can win in Kentucky, Democrats can win in Florida,” Gov. Andy Beshear assures Florida Democrats who gathered in Hollywood.
Beshear and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey also sought to burnish their political brands through unspoken — but very much present — signals about the 2028 presidential race.

“We will elect Democrats up and down the ballot,” Florida Democratic Party chair declares. “And we will be, once again, a beacon of light and hope, not just for the South, but for the entire country.”
Maybe not. Other Democrats aren't so sanguine about their party's prospects in the solidly red state.

“We will elect Democrats up and down the ballot,” declares Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “And we will be, once again, a beacon of light and hope, not just for the South, but for the e…
