When you’re feeding a family of 14, sometimes you just have to go big. 😄
So for taco night, we skipped the usual route and turned an 11-pound brisket into homemade barbacoa tacos. It turned out incredible!
Needless to say, taco night was a success. 🌮
If you’d like to try it yourself, I’ve posted the recipe below.
🌮 OVEN BARBACOA BRISKET TACOS
Ingredients:
• 11-ish lb brisket, cut into 3-4 inch chunks
• 4 tbsp chili powder
• 2 tbsp cumin
• 2 tbsp garlic powder
• 2 tbsp onion powder
• 2 tbsp kosher salt
• 1 tbsp black pepper
• 2 tsp smoked paprika
• 2 tsp oregano
Braising Liquid:
• Juice of 4 oranges
• Orange peels from those oranges
• 4 cups beef broth
• 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 2 large onions, sliced
• 3 cinnamon sticks
• 4 bay leaves
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
2. Mix seasonings and coat brisket chunks.
3. Place onions, garlic, orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and bay leaves in a large roasting pan.
4. Mix remaining liquid ingredients and pour into pan.
5. Add brisket chunks and cover tightly with foil.
6. Bake for 6-8 hours, until fork tender and easily shredded.
7. Remove orange peels, bay leaves, and cinnamon sticks.
8. Shred the meat and return it to the juices.
9. Bake uncovered for another 20-30 minutes.
Serve on warm tortillas with cilantro, diced onion, and fresh lime.
