Behind every strong school community are teachers and staff members helping students feel seen, supported, and ready to grow.

An octopus with a sharp point of view may be the most unexpected guide through grief, resilience, and second chances.

In her At The Movies With Kasey column, Kasey Butcher reviews Netflix’s adaptation of Remarkably Bright Creatures, starring Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, and Alfred Molina as the voice of Marcellus the octopus. The film brings Shelby Van Pelt’s novel to the screen with humor, emotion, coastal scenery, and a story built around unlikely connection.

Kasey also looks at Send Help on Hulu, a thriller led by Rachel McAdams that turns a workplace power imbalance into island survival tension.

The sewing machine may seem ordinary today, but it helped reshape clothing, industry, home life, and even how people paid for household technology.

In her History of Ordinary Things column, Doris Montag traces the invention from early failed patents and factory backlash to Elias Howe’s lockstitch, Isaac Singer’s commercial success, installment payments, zig-zag stitching, electric machines, and today’s computerized models. It is a reminder that one practical invention changed fashion, manufacturing, decorating, crafting, and daily labor in lasting ways.

A rare live look inside a barn owl nest box is giving viewers a front-row seat to one of Indiana’s endangered species.

A pair of barn owls at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area has produced eggs, and the public can watch the nest box live as the owls prepare for hatching. Barn owls are endangered in Indiana, with fewer than 50 nests found statewide each year, making secure nesting sites especially important.

From the timing of the hatch to how DNR nest boxes help protect barn owls, see how this live feed is offering a closer look at wildlife conservation in action: http://dlvr.it/TSmR3q

A cruise can feel like an escape, but shared air, crowded dining areas, close quarters, and thousands of overlapping interactions can also make illness spread quickly.

In a Parkview Health update, Dr. Michael Davis explains why cruise ships can be especially vulnerable to respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses, including norovirus, while also putting recent hantavirus concerns into context. The guidance is not meant to scare travelers away, but to remind them that prevention and awareness still matter before boarding.

Learn what makes cruise outbreaks more likely, which illnesses show up most often, and how travelers can think about risk before setting sail: http://dlvr.it/TSmDjG
